As the time that I went through the module 4, I would like to talk about the 9 types of mnemonics to improve your memory.
When I learn some class such as psychology or human nutrition, there are a lot of terms’ definition, I believed that this passage may help me a lot. I will choose several tips introduce here.
- Keyoword Mnemonics: in this passage it says that choosing a keyword that somehow cues you to think of the foreign word, then, you imagine that keyword connected with the meaning of the word you’re trying to learn. This is a really good way for me, English is my second language, There are some words connected to the other word, for example: science, scientist; dependent, depend… this is a really good way to remember more words in english.
- Chunking as a Mnemoic Stratege: when we want to remember a long number, we can not remember this when all the number putting together, such as when i want to remember the first 15 digits of Π which is 3.141592653589793, this is so hard to memory, so i put it like 3.14 15 926 535 897 93, this is easier to remember.
- Musical Mnemonics: from this passage one way to successfully encode the information into your brain is to use music, such as the ‘A-B-C’ song. In China, there are a lot kids who study English by using music, this can not only increase their interested in English, but also can make them easily to remember some English vocabs.
- Letter and Word Mnemonic Strategies: we can always use the Capital Letter to memery a long phrase, such as NBA which means the National Basketball Association; LOL means Laughing out Loud.
those four types are what i want to high light for, because i can always use those strategies in my daily life.
