Ohio State Fair Non-Livestock Project Results

The Ohio State Fair starts on Wednesday, July 27th. Our members who were selected to represent Licking County with their Clothing, Foods, and Special Interest projects will be competing daily throughout. You can check for the results of each day’s judging HERE. Results are typically posted by 11:00a.m. the day after the judging has taken place.

4-H Project Judging Results

We’re happy to provide you with judging results, and explain a little bit about the next step…

Results of Foods and Special Interest Project judging are posted online as follows:

WHAT’S NEXT? We want to recognize YOU!

If your member is listed on the results pages as having been recognized with a Superior, Honorable Mention or Ohio State Fair selection, you need to mark your calendar for the 2022 Licking County 4-H Style Revue and Recognition Event, which will be held on Thursday, July 21st at 6:30 p.m. in the Reese Center Auditorium on the Newark Campus of The Ohio State University.

The Licking County 4-H Style Revue and Recognition Event will begin with a Style Revue, which allows our CLOTHING project members to model their project work and complete the final stage of their project awards selection, and it is at that time that those youth receiving Superior awards will be announced. A brief intermission will take place just prior to the recognition portion of our evening program, which is described below…

As we begin recognition, we will call forward on to the stage all SPECIAL INTEREST project members who have received a Superior, Honorable Mention, or have been selected to represent Licking County during Ohio State Fair project judging. Each name included in the linked list will be recognized on stage and receive their respective ribbon or rosette. We will also announce the three youth chosen to receive Best of Show Awards for their Special Interest projects.

Following Special Interest Projects, FOODS project members receiving Superior, Honorable Mention, or selection to represent Licking County during Ohio State Fair project judging will be called to the stage to be recognized. It is at that time that we will also announce the Best of Show recipient among Foods project members, those members being selected for Best Display in the Junior and Senior Divisions, and name the Budding Star award recipients (beginner level members showing great promise for their work).

Following Foods Projects, it’s them time to recognize our CLOTHING project members! We will call back to the stage those members receiving Honorable Mention and Ohio State Fair selection, as well as those youth receiving special awards such as Junior or Senior Construction Awards, Wool Award (best garment constructed with wool), and Budding Star Awards (beginner level members showing great promise for their work).

It’s wonderful night of recognition, and you won’t want to miss it! Please come…

SPECIAL NOTE: OHIO STATE FAIR REPRESENTATIVES

If you are a member noted as being selected to move on to the Ohio State Fair for project judging award opportunities, please know that packets with all the information and materials you need are being placed in the mail from our office on Thursday, July 14th. When you receive your packet, look through it carefully and reach out with any questions. Please know that you may also VIEW Ohio State Fair information and materials (like those included in your packet) online at any time by following this link: https://ohio4h.org/nonlivestockguidebook. This will allow you to see dates, times, locations, etc.  (Clothing members will receive their packets at the conclusion of the Style Revue awards announcement.)

If you find that you are unable to participate in the designated Ohio State Fair judging event for which you have been selected, please contact Adrienne (anderson.1410@osu.edu) or Lisa (mccutcheon.46@osu.edu) at the Extension Office right away – as there is likely an alternate that we can contact to offer them the position to attend…

Congratulations to all our members who participated in interview judging!

We look forward to seeing many of you at the Style Revue and Recognition Event next Thursday!

Healthy Living 4-H Youth In Action Award Applications Now Accepted

Youth changing their communities is a cornerstone of 4-H Healthy Living work.  Do you have a teen leader who should be recognized for the work done in changing health in their community? The 4‑H Youth in Action Award Program recognizes four confident young leaders with diverse backgrounds and unique perspectives in the 4-H core pillar areas: agriculture, civic engagement, healthy living and STEM. Any of these pillar areas may be appropriate for youth leading change in WCC, but definitely civic engagement or healthy living!

Each year, Pillar Winners will experience an exciting year of telling their 4‑H story and celebrating their leadership. Winners receive:

  • $5,000 higher education scholarship
  • Opportunities to showcase their 4 H impact story
  • All-expenses paid trip to National 4 H Council event
  • Networking opportunities with 4 H celebrities and other prominent alumni
  • Recognition as the official 4 H youth spokesperson for their pillar

Applications are received through March 28 at https://4-h.org/parents/4-h-youth-in-action-awards/#!about-4h-youth-in-action

The application consists of basic contact information, answers to two limited response questions and a one-minute video.  This opportunity is open to 15-18 year-olds.

Licking County Teens are Traveling

Puerto Rico

Travis Allen is traveling with other Ohio 4-H members around Puerto Rico for a 4-H Cultural Immersion experience. The goal of this trip is to experience a different culture, increase multicultural communication skills, and work with Puerto Rico 4-H members to complete service projects. We can’t wait to hear all about Travis’s trip when he returns!

National 4-H Club Congress

Erika Grum and Bo Wolford have traveled to Atlanta, Georgia to attend the National 4-H Club Congress. Both were selected as Ohio 4-H Achievement Award winners in a specific project area in order to be selected for this opportunity. Attending 4-H Congress is the highest honor a 4-H member can receive during their 4-H career. These two traveled with the Ohio delegation and get to meet and connect with other 4-H members from across the country. Lisa is serving as one of four chaperones during this trip. Be sure to ask them about their experiences the next time you see them!
