Ohio 4-H Volunteer and Teen Awards Nominations

The Ohio 4-H Program recognizes exceptional volunteers and teens through specialty awards that are selected each year. We would love to see Licking County 4-H volunteers and teens selected for some of these prestigious awards. If you have someone that you would recommend for one of these awards, please let Adrienne or Lisa know by Friday, November 3, 2023 so we can have the time to collect the necessary information to complete the nomination and to ensure nominations are submitted by the deadline. You can view the list of award categories HERE or view them in the images below.

4-H Shooting Sports Fall Instructor Workshop

The 2023 4-H Shooting Sports Fall Instructor Workshop Registration is now live. Please go to http://go.osu.edu/2023FallWorkshopCanters to register. This workshop will be held at Canter’s Cave 4-H camp, located outside of Jackson Ohio, September 15-17. The cost is $110. The workshop is open to any approved 4-H volunteer who would like to get certified as a Shooting Sports discipline instructor. If you are planning to apply to be a 4-H advisor for 2024, there will be additional workshops in the beginning of 2024 for you to receive your shooting sports certification at that time. Instructors must be age 21 by the time of the training and be an approved 4-H Volunteer in their county program.  If interested, please reach out to Lisa (mccutcheon.46@osu.edu) to let her know you are planning to register. This workshop will offer all of the basic disciplines: Archery, Shotgun, Rifle, Pistol, Living History, Hunting and Wildlife as well as the advanced disciplines including Muzzleloader and Crossbow. We will also be offering Living History Level 2 training opportunity, which is a train the trainer level 2 program for Ohio. More information about the registration can be found on the Ohio 4-H Website under the Shooting Sports page.  https://ohio4h.org/families/members/events-opportunties/shooting-sports/state-training

Assistant Instructors are also welcome to register for this workshop. Assistant Instructors are individuals who have aged out of 4-H (age 19-20) but who have not reached age 21. These individuals will receive an Assistant Instructor certificate allowing them to teach under the direct supervision of a level one Shooting sports Instructor. Upon reaching the age of 21 they can apply to have their certificate changed to a certification as long as they have had continuous service as a 4-H Volunteer in the shooting sports program.

Junior Leaders will be allowed to attend this workshop and thanks to the support of the ODNR Division of Wildlife the first 20 Junior Leaders will be able to attend the workshop for $55.00! This price is only open to those ages 14-18 by January 1, 2023. Junior Leaders will need a letter of recommendation from a shooting sports certified instructor in the discipline they are registering to take. They should have also completed this project either in 2023 or in previous years and have knowledge of the project. Junior Leaders in the Shooting Sports program are able to help adult certified instructors but must be under the direct supervision of a level one instructor. Junior Leader certifications will not be recognized as adult certifications.

Junior Fair Exhibitor and Advisor Fair Admission Passes

Week long admission passes have been emailed out to all Hartford Fair Junior Fair Exhibitors and Advisors. The tickets were emailed to the email address that your family uses in 4-HOnline. The email will be from the “Hartford Independent Agricultural Society Box Office” from the email address: fansupport@hometownticketing.com. The subject line of email should say “Your Receipt and Tickets for 2023 Hartford Fair – Passes and Permits”. If you do not see this email in your inbox, please first ensure that you are checking the correct email inbox. Please also check your spam/junk folder as your email server may have automatically directed the email there.

You can either save your admission pass to a mobile device, or you can print it off and carry a physical copy. The QR code on the admission pass is unique to you and is what will be scanned when you enter the gate.

If your family would like to purchase additional week passes, single day passes, or other permits (such as preferred parking), you can do so through the Hartford Fair website.

REMINDER: Hartford Fair Entry Information

All Hartford Fair entries must be completed through the FairEntry portal this year. Please follow the Hartford Fair Entry Instructions when making your entries. Entry deadline is Monday, June 26, 2023.

Please note:

  • The Hartford Fair Entry Portal can be found by visiting: http://hartfordfair.fairentry.com

  • Please be sure to review the Hartford Fair Premium Book to ensure you know which Classes and Lots you will be making entries for before you start that process.
  • All 4-H families must use their 4-HOnline Credentials to log into FairEntry. If a member creates a new account in FairEntry, they will be unable to make entries in Junior Fair Departments as those departments require them to be enrolled in the appropriate 4-H project in order to make entries.

  • All FFA members will make their entries through their FFA advisor.

  • Please make sure that you add all entries to each exhibitor in your family before you submit the entries and continue to the payment portal.

  • The process for submitting a photo for an exhibitor fair ID as well as exhibitor gate admission will be sent out once entries close. You will not submit an exhibitor photo when making entries, that will be a separate process.
  • This is a new process and we know that there will be errors or glitches that will need solved. Please reach out to us if you run into an issue, and please have patience as we work through any glitches.

STILL PROJECT MEMBERS:

  • When you make your entries, you will need to know whether your club has decided to do a club booth in the 4-H Center. If you are unsure, please ask your advisor before completing entries.
  • You will need to select JR CLUBS SCHOOLS. You will then select 118.JB: 4-H INDIVIDUAL. If your club is having a club booth, you will select 01: INDVIDUAL EXHIBITS (CLUB BOOTH). If your club is not having a club booth, you will need to display your project in the Miscellaneous Booth. If that is the case, you will need to select 02: INDVIDUAL EXHIBITS (MISC BOOTH). Repeat these steps to add additional entries for still projects until you have the number of still projects entries that matches the number of still projects you plan to display in the booth.
  • If your club is doing a group project, please be sure to include that project in your number of entries. For example, if you are doing 409 Sew Fun, 492 Cake Decorating, and 091G Discover 4-H Group Project, you would make three Individual Still Project entries. You will NOT list your specific project names anywhere.

Your login credentials are the same as last year. If you have forgotten your password, please use the Reset Password option to reset your password. If you no longer have access to the email account you used last year, please email anderson.1410@osu.edu so we can update your family profile.

Instructions on how to log in and enroll can be found on the How to Join 4-H page here: https://licking.osu.edu/program-areas/4-h-youth-development/how-join-4-h.  Scroll down to the instructions for RETURNING Families. There are step-by-step instructions that you can view and print, a tip sheet, and a video.

Please ensure that you are at the 4-HOnline 2.0 site and have not traversed to the old site. Please note: If you search for 4-HOnline through a search engine, often the first option that populates is the old site. Please make sure that the login screen looks like this:

A few things to note:

  • There are several new and revised projects. One change that will likely be important for many of our members has to do with the rabbit projects. The three rabbit projects (225 Breeding Rabbit, 226 Market Rabbit, and 227 Pet Rabbit) have all been combined into one project book (new book coming soon). When looking to enroll in a rabbit project, you will want to look for project 228BR Breeding Rabbit, 228MA Market Rabbit, and/or 228PE Pet Rabbit.
  • If anyone in your family has been enrolled in 4-H anywhere in Ohio since 2014, you will have a family profile. If you have trouble accessing your family profile, please DO NOT create a new one. Contact Adrienne (anderson.1410@osu.edu) and she will help you get access to your existing profile.
  • If you have a family member who has “skipped” a year or two of 4-H, their profile may have been archived. Please contact Adrienne and let her know to reactivate the profile. Please DO NOT create a new profile. We want to utilize the existing profile for each member as all of their 4-H history is attached to the original profile.
  • Please take the time to review each member’s profile as you enroll them to ensure ALL the information is there and correct. Please update any contact information that may have changed since last year.
  • Please be sure that all projects are included and correct BEFORE you submit an enrollment. You will NOT be able to make changes to club/project enrollment once you click the Submit button. If you are not able to complete the enrollment in one sitting or are trying to decide on projects, the system will save each page of progress. You can leave that enrollment and come back to it later. Once you have submitted your enrollment, any changes regarding club and project enrollment will need to be made through Adrienne.
  • Once you submit an enrollment, it will be listed as “awaiting review” until it is reviewed at the county level. It will either be approved or will be sent back to you if there is something that needs fixed.
  • If you select a livestock, horse, dog, or shooting sports project the system will ask you to electronically sign the consent for those projects.
  • Cloverbud members should select the project #710GPM Cloverbud Activities for their enrollment.
  • Those joining the Licking County 4-H Band should select COP-Arts 1900 Performing Arts – 4-H Band for their project. It will be listed towards the end of the project list with the other County Only Projects (COP).
