Junior Swine Day

The Ohio Pork Council and OH-PIGS will host their annual Junior Swine Day on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at the Union County Fairgrounds.

All youth ages 5 + and their parents who are involved in the show pig industry are welcome to join us for a day full of learning! Participants will spend the day rotating through sessions while hearing from pork industry experts about animal nutrition, showmanship, animal health, biosecurity and so much more. Additionally, parents will have the opportunity to attend a session designed specifically for parents involved in the show pig industry.

Cost to attend is $5/person and lunch is included.

Southeast Ohio Pheasants Forever Youth Event at Johnstown Sportsmen’s Club

Southeast Ohio Pheasants Forever and the Johnstown Community Sportsmen’s Club and would like to invite the 4H members to an event being held at the Johnstown Sportsmen’s Club on Saturday April 8th. BroadbandOhio Listening Sessions

BroadbandOhio has launched its statewide stakeholder engagement effort, which will inform revisions to Ohio’s Broadband Strategy and support the development of proposals to access unprecedented federal funds for broadband, including the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment and Digital Equity Programs. Community Workshops for the Growth of Licking County

You have the chance to have your voice heard about the future of Licking County growth and development! The FRAMEWORK recommendations–based on your insight–will come together this summer. This is a critical time to hear from Licking County’s residents and employees. The time is now! Share your thoughts on how and where growth should take place. 4-H Day with the Detroit Tigers

Join Ohio 4-H & Michigan 4-H for a fun day at Comerica Park to watch the Detroit Tigers take on the Seattle Mariners on Saturday May 13!

4-H will be honored as the Group Charity of the Game. To celebrate; 4-H youth, volunteers, staff and their families will enjoy a discounted ticket to the game. Ohio 4-H Event Youth Assistant Applications Available

The 4-H Event Youth Assistant (4HEYA) applications are now available! This is an opportunity for teens 13-18 as of January 1 to get a short-term leadership experience at the state level. Applications are available at go.osu.edu/4HEYAapp and are due by May 15, 2023.

  • What: 4-H Event Youth Assistant (4HEYA)
  • Who: Individuals age 13-18 (as of January 1 of the year of application) and have at least 1 year prior 4-H experience.
  • Timeframe: Apply by May 15, selection, training, service to OSF, and evaluation. Complete responsibilities by August 31, 2023.
  • Requirements (in addition to application/selection process):
    • Training – Must attend one of the options for training (July 11 or July 17)
      • Please note: individuals MUST attend one of the training options. This is not negotiable. If you know you are unable to attend a training option before applying, it is best to wait another year before applying to serve in this capacity.
    • Events – Must work a minimum of 3 events at the Ohio State Fair; may work more if desired
  • Program Fee: $25/person (paid at go.osu.edu/4HEYA25);
  • Teens Receive:
    • 4HEYA Polo & Nametag
    • State Fair admission, parking ticket, and meal ticket(s)
    • Optional State Fair housing in the Rhodes Center (if desired)
    • Experience of working events at the Ohio State Fair
    • Opportunity to enhance leadership skills and be involved in the State 4-H program
  • What about the Teen Leadership Council? YES, these members may apply for 4HEYA AND TLC this year, if desired. TLC applications will be available in June and will be due the Friday following the Ohio State fair. Their term is September 1, 2023-August 31, 2024. Current TLC members are not eligible to apply for 4HEYA, as they are already fulfilling obligations at the Ohio State Fair.

Licking County Pest Management Committee Scholarship Due

The Licking County Pest Management Committee have two $500 scholarships available each year for Licking County students who are already in college or a tech school and pursuing a career related to agriculture.  The application is simple and fillable online.  It can be returned by email (kreager.5@osu.edu), mail, or in person at the Licking County Extension Office by April 1st.  Additional details and the application can be found HERE.

Ohio Victory Garden Seed Packets Available

Do you need some seeds to get your garden started? We’ve got you covered! Several OSU Extension offices have individually packaged sample seed starter packets to get your garden going. You can pick up seed packets from the Licking County Extension Office during normal business hours, while supplies last. Visit the Ohio Victory Gardens blog to learn more about the seeds included and tips for getting your seeds off to a good start!

LAST CHANCE: Take the Leap Career Readiness Day!

REGISTRATION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MARCH 20! Take the Leap: Career Readiness Day”, hosted by the Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council, is on Saturday, April 1, 2023 (9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) at the Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center! This event is open to any 4-H member – ages 13 to 18!  Event cost is $10. Several Teen Leadership Council members have been planning this event and are excited to facilitate this opportunity for their peers.

This day is jam-packed full of opportunities for participants with some highlights listed here:

  • Learn about 4-H opportunities at the state level
  • Rotate through career preparation workshops covering topics such as resume writing, interview skills, goal setting, and more
  • Network with peers who are also interested in preparing for their future
