Emma Kline is the Lab Specialist for the Living Art and Ecology Lab. She believes that art and science are both practices of observation and curiosity. Her vision for the LAE Lab is to create a space that brings together different ways of knowing and relating to the environment, and that invites students to use their artistic practices as a way of taking closer notice of their local ecosystems. She contends that there is much to learn from the network of life with which we are directly entangled if we take the time to look and listen.
Previous to this position, Emma worked as a field technician on wildlife monitoring and ecosystem restoration projects across the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic. She holds a B.S in Ecology and Evolution from Ohio State alongside a minor in studio art. Her current artistic interests are in natural pigments, textiles, and our relationship to the materials in our daily lives; on the science side she is interested in plant-animal-microbe interactions and how these relationships influence ecosystem stable states during restoration and rewilding efforts.
