Secret of Drawing 1 – Response

There are so many talented and impressive artists that delve in the art genre of drawing, and this idea of drawing contrasts so much that some of the artists involved in this documentary almost appear to be completely different. For example, John Russell had extremely detailed drawings of the moon, more specifically the first phase of the moon, these were so realistic that it was said that individual craters could be identified purely from the drawings and some people thought that the drawings might actually be photographs due to the extreme detail and realism. This contrasts vastly from the work of Francis Wells, while Wells isn’t an accomplished artist, his drawings are still quite interesting, this is because a lot of his drawings were in human blood, while this may sound off putting at first it is important to note that he did these drawings moments after an operation, while there was still blood on the instruments and forceps, he used the blood to note and inform others in the room on additional information that he had discovered while in the operation, this is because he worked at breakneck pace and had to recall the information very quickly once he was done, and this was the best way to get that information across. John Constable was also very interesting to me, drawing landscapes with no formal art education is extremely impressive, these landscape drawings were both realistic but also had a very distinct style about them, instantly recognizable and very impressive.
