Planning

Hello! Long-time, no talk! It has been quite a busy semester for not only me but my roommates and fellow Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Exploration and Engagement (STEM EE) scholars as well! My partner, Sara Derge and I met up to plan out how we would go through with our capstone project with our different schedules in both the fall and spring semester.

Initially, we plan on sending out a Google Form to not only our friends, but family, teachers, professors, upperclassmen, coworkers, and strangers as well to get a gamut of demographics and majors. With that, Derge and I also intend on posting this Google Form on various social media platforms to reach a further audience too. We know people are busy and have a lot on their plate so we minimalized our Google Form as much as possible to make it seamless and painless for everyone.

At the same time, we will be researching and finding statistics on the current demographics of STEM and more specifically, women in stem. These will soon be incorporated into our poster and our paper to back up our findings and claims. We hope to use primary sources that will be beneficial as references in our capstone paper too.

From there, Derge and I will compile as many answers to our Google Form and draw conclusions based on these findings that will then be implemented into our paper and poster. Despite how we initially wanted to interview professors, undergraduate students, graduate students, and more, Derge and I found this hard to accomplish with our restricted schedules in comparison to others as well. We also agreed that this would just provide a microcosm perspective on the massive issue that it wouldn’t be as beneficial and easy as if we asked a question pertaining to issues with the lack of women in STEM.

With all of this, we hope everything is smooth sailing from here!
