Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: I am currently in the advanced Spanish grammar class and plan on minoring in Spanish as well. Therefore, I will be continuing to learn more about the language and culture throughout my time at Ohio State. I also am thinking about going on a trip to Peru with a club I joined called Medlife. During the trip, we would go to volunteer at clinics since many do not have access to healthcare. This would be an amazing opportunity to broaden my views on the world and get to experience what life is like in a different country.
  • Original Inquiry: I am a premed biology major hoping to go right into med school after college. Therefore, research is very important and is something I will be looking to participate in for the coming years. As I get to know my professors in the science field, if I see any research programs that they are apart of, I will definitely reach out to see if there’s any way for me to contribute and really learn from the whole process.
  • Academic Enrichment: I am taking honors psychology this semester, and it has been a great class so far. I really enjoy the smaller size classes where it’s easier to interact with everyone else as well as with the professor. When scheduling for classes next semester, I’ll be looking at more honors classes to see which I can be apart of. Next semester I would ideally like to take an honors biology course.
  • Leadership Development: I joined a club this year called best buddies. It’s a club where you are paired with someone with a disability, and it really helps you to learn a lot about compassion, friendship, and qualities that would helpful for being a leader. Next semester I would also like to get involved either with leadership roles in the honors council or in any of the clubs that I have joined as well. Being a leader in a club is important in guiding the direction of where that club will progress in the future.
  • Service Engagement: I will be applying this fall to volunteer at the Wexner Medical center. I think it would be a good opportunity especially considering my major to get some hands on experience in a hospital. Medlife also offers continual service opportunities throughout the semester that anyone in the club can sign up for. This weekend I am going to an event for habitat for humanity. I really like that the club makes service easy and accessible for students on campus.

About Me

I am coming into OSU as a biology major minoring in Spanish on the pre-med track. I am extremely excited to get hands on experience through volunteering/shadowing at the Wexner medical center and doing research as well. I am always willing to try something new and learn from my mistakes. I can’t wait to get involved in clubs, maybe club golf, go to the OSU football games, and meet new people.
