In the article, “Simple Ways to Optimize Your Mental Health While in College,” Michael Schroeder offers a list of ways students can take care of themselves through the academic and social demands of college.

Schroeder encourages students to pay attention to their own mood and feelings and emphasizes that it is important to getting help early for feeling that you don’t have time to manage academic, physical, and emotional health  [right: Schroeder encourages students to pay attention to their own mood and feelings and emphasizes that getting help early for problems like anxiety and depression is very important.](Paraphrase: Using too many of the same words, using the same words like you dont have time to manage academic, physical, and emotional health) . He says You needn’t be diagnosed with a mental health condition to benefit from taking steps to improve your psychological well-being. One of the steps you can take, he says, is exercise.  He explains that endorphins and other natural chemicals from exercise are very important in preventing mental health problems and depression.[right: not exercising can cause weight gain, which can also affect mental health. ] (Paraphrase: Same structure/Synonym replacement, the original article says ..is very important in .. ) Furthermore, he says,  not exercising can cause weight gain, which can also affect mental health.      According to Schroeder, what you eat is also important, since diet affects mood and anxiety. He warns students against quick fixes, like tobacco, alcohol, and drugs to boost mood.  He says these can result in bigger problems later.

Schroeder recommends mindfulness and meditation to help with uncomfortable situations and self-isolating behavior. He says mindfulness involves focusing on the present moment:  Bringing awareness, acceptance, self-compassion, curiosity, and just noticing non-judgmentally those internal experiences as their arrivingDirect quotation: Missing quotation marks.  This, he says, is a good way to process difficult experiences or feelings.    Loving-kindness meditation, which he says is similar, is a practice by which we focus on positive experiences and people and send thoughts and wishes to those we love.

Schroder argues that it is important to have outlets for coping with feelings and experiences, and journaling since it put negative thoughts, feelings, aspirations and anything else that might  get some mental disease from  those thoughts  [ He says mindfulness involves focusing on the present moment:  “Bringing awareness, acceptance, self-compassion, curiosity, and just noticing non-judgmentally those internal experiences as they’re arriving” (para. 6).] (Paraphrase: Same structure/Synonym replacement, used “….put onto paper any negative thoughts, feelings, aspirations and anything else that might…..) .  Also important, he says, is developing a network of social support – good friends and family – and staying in touch with them while avoiding people who are unsupportive.  According to Schroeder, not having a good social network has health risks, and research shows that those who are socially connected are mentally and physically healthier.  He suggests scheduling mental-wellness activities on our “to-do” list.

Insufficient sleep, says Shroeder, can negatively affect brain function and even awaken any genetic predisposition to mental illness; therefore, he emphasizes, it is very important to get ample rest and room-darkening blinds in the bedroom, TV-out.. are good ways. [ right: therefore, he emphasizes, it is very important to keep enough quality sleep.](Paraphrase: Using too many of the same words, it is important to get ample rest and room-darkening blinds in the bedroom, TV-out.. are good ways )

Finally, Schroeder encourages students to become involved in activities that give their lives meaning and purpose, such as volunteering to help others.  He says experts claim that this is a very effective way to improve mental well-being.

Executive Producer is the position with high job satisfaction(77%), low job stress(13%), and high job meaning(26%). 80 percent of the executive producer hold a Bachelors degree, and among those 27% majored in Journalism in college. The national median pay for Executive Producer is around $103,100 with 58% male workers and 42% female workers. The other job that was recommended to me is Product Marketing Director, which has an even higher job satisfaction at 80%, low job stress at 31%, and high job meaning at 41%. In comparison with Executive Producer, 52% of Product Marketing Director hold a MBA degree and 37% hold a Bachelors degree with the most common major to be Marketing. The national Median Pay is significantly higher for Product Marketing Director, which is $148100. The percent fore male workers is around three times as female workers. However, I think both Executive Producer and Product Marketing Director is not the best choice for me because I am not very interested in dealing with money and supervising different things, which are crucial skills for these specific jobs. These two jobs are also disparate from my intended major, which is Physics. In my opinion, physics mainly focuses on objects, yet these two recommended jobs may need  lots effort on dealing with interpersonal problems. To be honest, it would be a big struggle for me to confront different people and different issues every day though I have enough calm to face those chaotic events and have ability to deal with them which might make me feel tired, it is still not perfect job. I am generally satisfied with the salary of both positions since I dont have too much bad habits and do not want to have a extravagant life, so its sufficient as long as I can make a living and support my family. I agree that with a higher degree, like a Masters or even Doctors, the salary will be a lot better than the those with only Bachelors degree. However, job experiences are as crucial as degrees, since a person with high education might not have the ability to succeed in working. People would definitely choose the one with ten years experience rather than a high degree fresh graduate. Personally I consider the job satisfaction is not that important sometime since I gain satisfaction elsewhere although there are common that those high salary earning people constantly suffer from depression because they are not satisfied with their jobs. I think why they suffer a lot and lead them to succeed is they push them self hard and cant find ways to relax. High pay for a high risk and tough work, thats fair. So to get those jobs like executive producer and director of the product marketing, I must have an advance degree and work for quite lot of time before I at last get there. Major sometimes matter but to be honest, Ive seen too much examples about those whose future jobs and collage majors are completely different things, so I think those will not bother me too much. In conclude, I dont think those recommended jobs are perfectly suitable for me, but if they have enough advantages for me to ignore those defects, Im willing to try every new job even I have never heard them before.

Hello !

I am now in the online course 1901. We have been asked to write a personal statement about where are we what we are going to do and why we chose to be here.To be honest, it is quite hard for me to talk about my life or my personalities in English although I’m here, as an international college student, looking forward to learning all kinds of things in OSU, talking about my nation, my culture and so on.

I’m from China, my name is tianyue li, it’s my Chinese name so you can just call me Leo, I haven’t  got too much to say because I can’t click in to the first link in professor’s letter and seems like can’t receive full credit because of that.

My name is tianyue li, who is a Freshman at the Ohio State University. I come from SuZhou, JiangSu, where is a beautiful city in southern China. There was a proverb which says, “there is a heaven up in the sky, there is SuZhou in China.” Martial Art is my favorite hobby and I also like skateboarding which brings me excitement and good health. Since I am an Asian, there is no doubt that rice is my favorite food. Furthermore, I must mention that I like to watch competitive eaters show, which means basically I like all the kinds of food.

I received an education till high school in China. The high school I went to was called SuZhou Foreign Language School, which mainly helps students to expose more to written and verbal English and to enhance students’ English skills in order to fit quicker when they go to study in the English-speaking countries like America and Britain. I went to France during the winter in 2017, which gave me an imperishable memorization. As we all know, France is a romantic country. When I went there with my parents, we visited the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and the Notre Dame museum.

OSU is the place fits my imagination mostly, because it gets numerous prestigious professors, who are famous around the world. When I was searching for schools, I saw on the internet that Columbus Ohio is a city with plenty of resources and the largest research center in the US, which provides me the opportunity to fulfill my dream to become a successful engineer. OSU also has the largest campus in the US, which interests me because I like bigger campus and better diversity, which makes me feel more involved in the community I live in.
