End of 1st Year Review

I had an amazing first year at tOSU and am sad to see the year come to a close. The last few weeks of the year might not have been I expected them to be, but I feel very grateful for the time I had on campus. I was able to take many interesting classes on topics I feel passionate about. I took two economics courses that truly changed the way I saw the world around me. Especially during this pandemic with the changing economy, I love having a deeper understanding on what is causing the changes we are seeing and what the impact will be on the US citizens and the world. Taking these economic courses also helped me discover my passion for economics, leading me to consider my minor of EEDS (environment, economy, development, and sustainability). This minor also allows to take more courses on the environment and sustainability, which I also was able to learn a lot about during ENR seminars.

I was able to learn outside of the classroom as well. I loved meeting the variety of people from all over the world and with very different backgrounds. I learned the impact that the way I was raised had on how I see the world and how I see my future. I was able to interact with many foreign students who grew up in a society that allowed them to have different goals and different lifestyles. Learning about the different cultures and getting to interact with many who, even though they are also from Ohio, had different backgrounds showed me the amount you can learn from just getting to know those around you.

This past year was a time of immense growth for me as a person. I was able to come out of my shell more as a person and become more of the confident social butterfly I always wanted and tried to be. I also grew to be more independent and better with time management. This helped me to become a better college student as time went on, due to better figuring out my study habits and the daily schedules that were best for me.

There are many memories that I look fondly back at. Although it is hard to choose a favorite memory, I would probably have to pick the Michigan State football game. It was at night, which meant the stadium was beautifully lit with effects and bright lights. The Buckeyes won the game 10-34, which is a closer score than usual for OSU, which added tension and excitement. I loved being surrounded with my closest friends from Morrill Tower and my classes. The Shoe was full of scarlet and grey and cheerful Buckeyes! Hearing the O-H-I-O around the stadium, as each side yelled their part filled me with joy and pride in my school. Singing Carmen Ohio with friends at my sides after the victory will always be a memory I cherish forever.

In a few months, I will able to start my second year at OSU and I could not be more eager. Although I will miss Morrill Tower, I am excited to live on new North campus, where I will be closer to where I go the most. In addition, I am excited to be able to take more major specific classes and learn more about my passions, along with make more unforgettable memories with friends I am sure I will keep for the rest of my life.

My Personality Type

After completing an enneagram test, the results showed me that I supposedly have a type 7 (the adventurer) personality type. This means that my main traits according to the test are adventurous, outgoing, and practical, with a fear of missing out and a basic desire of wanting to be fulfilled and happy. On enneagraminstiture.com, the adventurer personality is referred to as the enthusiast, and described as busy, variety-seeking type, optimistic, scattered, curious, and commonly anxious. I feel that the results are accurate in most situations, but not all. This is not the first time I was described with a personality like this. My time at tOSU allowed me to grow to be an optimistic, adventurous, and curious student now more than ever. Although I can be very anxious and scattered like the results predicted, I do not feel this personally is always is a great fit for me. I can be shy and reserved in many situations still, however I expect this aspect of me to fade as I continue my college career.

To reach the top level of development for this personality type, I need to become deeply grateful and be simply filled with joy on the wonders of life. I also need to become truly highly responsive, enthusiastic about all experiences, and avoid becoming self-centered and anxious. I try to end everyday spending time in prayer, being grateful for all I have been blessed with in my life, although there is always room for growth.

I believe in order to maximize my growth at Ohio State personally, I need to continue to embrace becoming as adventurous, outgoing, and grateful as I can be, to continue the growth that already occurred during my first year. In addition, I need to try to limit my anxiety and perfectionism, which would stop me from becoming the most accomplished and fulfilled person I can be after graduation.

Columbus To-Do List Part 2

After going to COSI, I was able to experience Columbus in other ways. I was able to go to the North Market with a friend and it was a great experience. It was very easy to get to and we were able to take the COTA without any issues. There were so many great options that I struggled to even make a decision on what tasty thing to get! I ended up getting Ramen from an authentic ramen shop. It was very delicious. I loved the variety of cultures that were showcased. They had food from all around the world and I feel that the mix of cultures shows the diversity in Columbus. Walking around the North Market was definitely the best experience I had from this project. The only confusing thing about the experience is why the place closes early in the evening, meaning we had to rush. Another experience I went through as a part of this project is getting Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream and it was very good! I had never tried such unique flavors! I got two half scoops and I was pleased with my decision to try new interesting flavors! Although it was cold outside, the ice cream was a great decision and the best ice cream I have had in Columbus! I did not take a picture of what I got, since at the time I did not realize that it was on a to-do list, but it was in the North Market which I was able to get a picture of. Another very fun experience that I had in Columbus was going Easton Mall. I believe that this location should be on the Columbus To-Do lists. It was easily the best mall I have ever been to! It was very clean and had a big variety of shops to choose from. While I was there, I was able to admire the pretty lights up, even though it was only mid-October. While we were there, we tried Graeters Ice Cream. I got Buckeye-Blitz, due to my love of buckeyes as an OSU student. It was very good and creamy! The flavors seemed less unique in comparison to Jeni’s but Graeters was very filling and delicious.

I highly recommend going to Easton and the North Market. Both places were very different than any place I have been before. Easton is a great place to go with friends! Due to how developed Columbus has become, the mall was huge and had a lot to offer! In addition, the North Market is a great snapshot of the diversity in the Columbus area!

Columbus To-Do List Part One

The to-do list that I have chosen to complete this semester is the downtown area list. It includes many well-known things that as someone from Cincinnati, I have never been to, such as Columbus Commons, Moonlight Market, and Dirty Frank’s Hot Dog Palace. The one I am looking forward to going to the places on the list. I am the most excited for the Columbus Museum of Art. I have heard many great things about the museum from people who live in the area. After looking into it, I learned that there is the “Creative Art of LEGO”, which seems very intriguing. I hope to fall more in love with the city Columbus and learn more about all this is has to offer. Although I have been living on campus for over two months, I have not traveled much around the city, despite the resources to do so. One experience that I have already that is on the list is going to COSI. I loved exploring the vast number of exhibits that I could learn from, even at my age. I liked the progress exhibit, due to all the little details that we put into making the area look as realistic as possible. I also liked the energy exhibit and looking at how much things we think as ordinary impact the world. My favorite exhibit was the oceans exhibit. Not only did it all look very cool, but there was a lot to learn about in the area. I learned about a variety of things such as how waves work and how small submarines are. I would definitely recommend COSI to anyone! Not only did I learn a lot about the earth, but also had a lot of fun with friends!

About Me

Hi, I am Jenny Lewis from Cincinnati, Ohio! As the third child in my family to attend OSU, I was raised a big buckeyes fan and am happy to be here at THE Ohio State University! I come from a decently small school in a suburb of Cincinnati. As the youngest of four, I am excited to be off on my own and discover who I am. In the classroom, I am a hard worker and am passionate about learning new things. My learning style is more hands on, trying things for myself and learning from my mistakes. My academic goals at OSU are to take advantage of all that OSU has to offer to find out more of my passions, while continuing to work my hardest. My major is accounting due to my love of math and business, and as a student in Fisher, I hope to further strengthen my skills as a leader. Although my major is unrelated to the environment, I am still very passionate about sustainability and the outdoors. I love spending time outdoors playing tennis, relaxing, hiking, and camping. Growing up, I was blessed enough to be taking out west for 2 weeks every summer. I was able to visit and hike many national parks such as Zion, Glacier, Grand Teton, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Sequoia, and many more. My time outdoors helped me learn to appreciate the outdoors and all that it has to offer. To help protect the beauties of the world for future generations and the habitats of the living things we share the Earth with, I try to be environmentally green and am happy to be a part of ENR.
