About Me

My impression of Ohio State was probably like others impressions, which was it’s huge. The food was way better then high school food so eating it everyday wasn’t an issue. My first impession was a good one, but my expectations was different. I was here for three weeks before school stated because of YSP (young scholars program) summer bridge program. During the three weeks here it was very quite and not crowded at all. As growing up in a quite home I cherished the quite moments, but this didn’t last as move in day was approaching. Before move in day my roommate moved in she was so sweet and still is, much more clean then me. She was an owl so she helped people move in on move in day. In my experience, I disliked that day. For three weeks it was fairly quite so with all that to go away in one day with cars, loud music, and screaming it was really hard to adapt. The first week of class sizes reminded me of high school. Welcome week begin to make me forget about high school and remind me that in was starting college. The involvement I expected much better the what I saw. I saw involvement fairs in the movies like Pitch Perfect and Monsters Inc. and expected to be a lot similar to these but wasn’t. It was too crowded, hot, and if you made eye contact you were bound to sign up so they leave you alone. Welcome week overall was fun, my most favorite part was all the free food and stuff that came with it but it was slowly coming to an end. In conclusion I had a really great first impression of Ohio State, but has the weeks went on my expectations were different from what really happened.

My mentor is Julia. Julia is a current architecture major and is doing a minor in computer science. She is originally from Cleveland. In the interview I asked her why did she wanted to do architecture, at first she was unsure, but then she said that she really likes calculus and in high school she was in a sculpture class. She always did cross country but only one organization she was very interested in, which was the sailing club. In the summer time she raced in competitions. More fun facts about Julia is that she is a triplet. She has a older brother and younger sister. If she ever was to switch majors, which she thinks about everyday, it would be into either computer science or history. Julia had multiple places that she loves to study in and it doesn’t involve the 4th floor of knowlton like everyone else, but are other places that were interesting and very interesting to know as far as The Thomson library,  The Smith lab or simple places like her room.  In the interview I learned that we have a very good thing in common that I love about her. Her favorite food is tacos , she picked all the right places to get good tacos to like the Union, conados, and Scott. She likes other things to like the market place on Neil and the meatball in correl which I can agree with. In the interview I also asked if she could go back in time what advice would she give too her pass self what would be it, she humorous explained that she would tell herself not to go into architecture, also telling herself that it is okay for her to do things on her own. Then she went to present good advice for me. She recommended to talk theater 2367, but dont talk intro to yoga, which was very helpful. Some additional advice was having a good balance between school and fun and procrastinating is very easy especially in college because all the free time. As much free time there is , there is work to do so procrastinating is not really a good way to spend free time. Hand writing nots are very helpful and better for your memory. Last words of advice she gave was be friendly every chance you get, first impressions really matter, and it’s never to late to make new friends.
