Tower Bridge, London, England

Tower Bridge, London, England

Artifact 1: Photograph of Tower Bridge

During winter break of my senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to travel to London, England, with a group of students and teachers from my high school and another high school in Cleveland. We experienced all the city has to offer during our eight days there, including delicious food, intriguing culture, and beautiful sights.

This photograph was taken after a tour of the Tower of London. At the Tower of London, we had the opportunity to learn about the history of the Tower and the development of the city of London. I believe it was after this tour that I came to realize my appreciation for culture and exciting destinations. Prior to this experience, I had just seen the trip as a fun vacation and an opportunity to run around the city with my best friend. The Tower of London really helped me realize that there is a lot out in the world for me to experience.

After taking this photograph, I have been inclined to travel, explore, and take adventures, no matter how small they may seem. I never know what is awaiting me, so it is my responsibility to investigate for myself. In a way, this is why I chose to study at The Ohio State University. I knew I would not immediately fit in here, for this is a very different environment from my thirteen years of education before college, but I knew Ohio State would be an adventure for me, providing challenges to my life in more aspects than one.

This photograph proves to be a reminder of the adventure I experienced in January 2015 and the adventures I want to seek out and experience during my academic career at The Ohio State University and beyond.

About Me

Welcome to my page!

My name is Heidi Lewis, I am a first year biology major at The Ohio State University. I am on the pre-medicine track with a goal of becoming a physician. I am a Mount Leadership Society Scholar, and am extremely thankful and excited for the various opportunities that lie on the road ahead. I am a recent graduate of Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, where I was a member of the National Honors Society, captain of the Women’s Track and Field and Bowling teams, and an active member in serving the greater Akron community through various service projects.

Before moving to Columbus, I worked at the University Hospitals Portage Medical Center for two years. There, I worked in Nutrition Services and delivered food trays to the patients throughout the day. I had the opportunity to interact with patients on a different level than the healthcare providers, which helped me to further develop my bedside manners and knowledge of patient concerns.

I am passionate about health and fitness, and feel that many serious health issues can be avoided when treated early. Preventive medicine is an excellent way to stop small problems from turning into serious issues, and I believe that I can use my strengths and talents to be a productive member of the healthcare community. I believe that I can use my experiences from my job at UH Portage and personal experiences to provide excellent patient care and keep the patients’ best interests in mind in order to do what is best for their health.

As I start my undergraduate studies at Ohio State, I look forward to the opportunities I will have to learn and grow as a person. This growth will be invaluable once I begin to prepare to become a physician. This page will follow my experiences and will serve as a way to track my progress over time.
