G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: I intend to be very involved with global awareness during my time at school. First, my intended major is international studies with a focus on international relations and diplomacy, as I would like to work with international politics. I think that as the world is becoming increasingly globalized and issues are starting to affect multiple countries, it’s important to work internationally and understand the world as a whole. I also plan on minoring in Spanish and would like to study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country. I also plan on learning multiple languages while I’m here, and possibly joining a multicultural organization to cultivate my Indian heritage.

Original Inquiry: Through the honors college, we are encouraged to take challenging coursework, and I plan on fulfilling that requirement with enriching courses throughout my four years. I also am interested in completing undergraduate research, whether or not it’s related to my major. In high school, I completed a research project related to sports and society, so I might want to continue that research at some point during my undergraduate years. Additionally, I am interested in journalism and would like to continue to pursue that here at school.

Academic Enrichment: I chose my coursework to prepare me for a life in international politics. I’m very interested in how different cultures relate to each other, especially through a political lens. I also think it’s important for people to be able to speak different languages, and is especially important when one wants to work internationally. For these reasons, I am planning on minoring in Spanish. I also would like to take the BS route, so I will be required to take more math and science based GE courses, which will hopefully add to skills I can have in the future.

Leadership Development: Being a leader is something I would like to work on during my time as an undergraduate. To start, I am a member of the Honors Community Council, and I hope to get involved in many more activities that are offered here at the university. In the future, I hope to be able to participate in internships over the summer, possibly in DC, or maybe even internationally. I have goals to work with NGOs during my freshman and sophomore years, and then to be involved in the State Department internships during my junior or senior years.

Service Engagement: Service is a very important way for people to help out their community. I’m interested, first, in participating in a Buck-I-Serv trip at some point during my time here. I also would like to work for Teach For America in the future, and help out underprivileged communities around the United States.
