Year in Review

Over the last year, I’ve learned a lot about myself and what I want to be in life. Starting last semester, I had a serious knee injury which took me out of classes for a considerably large portion of the semester. This was trying of course physically, but more importantly it was trying mentally. I never realized how hard it is to be incapacitated. I got through that though, even though it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to deal with. It made me realize that even through something so major and all-consuming, I would still come out the other end of it. I hope this is the worst thing I’ll have to deal with at least in my young life, and if I made it through that relatively unscathed, then I can expect to make it through the rest of life’s challenges. That brings me to academics. While this year was not the best for me academically, I’ve learned a fair amount about what makes me a successful student and will be employing that for the next two years. Taking a full course load and working a part time job on top of that has tested my ability to function in multiple facets of life. I know what’s too much for me to handle, and I know where I can work to improve my organizational skills in the future. I also realized that, while important, grades aren’t the most important thing in the world. Sure, they open doors. But I don’t need a 4.0 GPA and to be involved in seven different student orgs to be successful (in my case, get a great internship with a fantastic company). There’s so much pressure on kids these days when it comes to grades. As I said, they are important. But one major takeaway from this year is that even if I’m not that 4.0 student graduating at the top of my class, I can still be successful through my ability to connect with people and through my passion and determination to work hard and do the job right. This year as well as last year have certainly tested my determination and passion, but I have come out of it more or less on top. Now I’m looking forward to a great summer with a great internship, and two years of classes in my field. I’m very excited for the future, and have the stressors and roadblocks of my past to thank for that. To top it all off, I’ve made some great friends and connections along the way.

About Me

First year Marketing major with a Spanish minor. Hands-on thinker and learner. I enjoy having a sense of humor in a formal environment, as well as working alongside those who do. Just because we are in a formal setting, does not mean we need to garrote the use of humor. I enjoy social settings as well as pushing myself and others toward excellence.
