Columbus Adventure

For our Columbus Adventure, our group decided to go to DP Dough in the short north. It was a small restaurant that serves calzones and they have over 40 different calzone options. They played some great music and and it was a good time getting to know my group better. I would definitely recommend DP Dough to a friend. The calzones were amazing and the workers were very nice. Also, I would recommend getting the extra spices on the calzone because it adds a lot of flavor. From this experience I learned that there a so many great places to eat close to school and the only way you’re going to find out about a lot of them is by walking around and exploring the city.

Columbus To-Do List #2

Over the past few weeks I visited a few more restaurants around Ohio State. The first was Biscuit and Branch in the Short North area, and the second was Figlio in Grandview. Although these were both great, my favorite experience from this semester is going to Condado Tacos with my friend Joe. The experience reminded me of home and the food was amazing. By exploring all of these different restaurants I have learned that the city of Columbus has so much more to offer than just what is right around campus. This experience has made me want to look into more things to do off-campus because I know that with just a little effort I can enhance my college experience immensely. The advice that I’d give to anyone trying to explore the numerous restaurants in Columbus is to do a little research before picking your destination. Just a few minutes of searching can result in finding a place that you’ve never heard or seen of, and it might just become your favorite place to eat.

Above is a picture of my delicious meal from Biscuit and Branch in the Short North Area. My dad was visiting for the weekend and decided to take me and my sister out to brunch on that Sunday morning. The best part of the experience was catching up with my dad, but not having to eat breakfast from Scott Traditions was a close second. I don’t know if I will return to Biscuit and Branch soon due to a small menu, but I would recommend it to a friend. It wasn’t too far from campus, and the food was great. I’m glad I tried this place out.

The next restaurant I tried was Figlio in Grandview. This past weekend my entire family was visiting for the football game, and they took me and a few of my friends out for pizza. My favorite things about this experience were being able to spend time with my whole family and enjoying the terrific food! I would definitely recommend Figlio to a friend and would probably end up joining that friend for dinner. Although the restaurant is a little bit further away from campus, it is located in a nice area and the free bread and olive oil definitely make up for the drive. Figlio has a great menu in my opinion and is the perfect place to dine with friends and/or family.

Columbus To-Do List #1

For this semester, I have decided to choose to explore local food favorites and food trucks. I am most looking forward to trying different types of food, and different restaurants throughout Columbus. From this assignment I am hoping to discover more restaurants throughout the city that I wouldn’t have discovered without looking into it. I tend to have a few favorite places to eat and then I keep going back to my few favorite venues. Hopefully this assignment will push me out of my comfort zone a little bit and help me try new things. One experience I have had so far is going to Condado with my friend from high school who is visiting me.

Going Condado Tacos was a terrific experience. I had a great time catching up with my best friend from high school who now goes to school 11 hours away. It was great food and the queso was definitely the best part. I learned that the Condado restaurants are owned by the same people that own a restaurant named Barrio in Cleveland. My server told me this when he saw I was from Cleveland because of the hat I was wearing. I am a big fan of Barrio, so it makes sense that I like Condado so much! I would definitely recommend Condado to anyone who likes a good taco, and will definitely be back soon.

Artifacts

Artifact 1

My high school football jersey reminds me of all the relationships I built with my teammates and coaches throughout my four years of high school. It also represents the work ethic my teammates and I used, on and off the field, which has formed me into the person I am today.

Artifact 2

The laundry room of Drackett Tower represents my growth as an individual since coming to Ohio State. By doing everything on my own and living away from my parents I have become more independent and responsible.

About Me

Hi, my name is Matt Leszcz. I am from Westlake, Ohio (a suburb on the west side of Cleveland) and went to high school at Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio. In high school I played football and ran track, was part of Student Senate, and was involved in a few different service clubs. In my free time I like to play pickup basketball and football, golf, ski, and hang out with my family and friends. I live with my parents and four siblings, and I come from a family of buckeyes. I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the Ohio State University and taking Calculus, Physics, and some first time engineering classes. I am part of the Humanitarian Engineering Scholars, and I am looking forward to using the skills I develop in class to help better the community. I enjoy working with other people on projects, and just being around other people in general. While studying at Ohio Sate, I am hoping to join a few clubs and intramural sports teams. I am not entirely sure what I want to do after college as far as my career, but I am excited by all the possibilities a degree in Mechanical Engineering can bring about.

I relate to this strength because I always find myself using logic and reason spontaneously, and finding a need to explain why certain events unfolded as they did. I also tend to use logic to coordinate plans and projects.

2. Includer

I find that I have a very open approach to people and I always love to make new friends. I also find myself hanging out with logical people, and hate excluding people from things.

Through athletics and academics, I have found that I tend to be a very competitive person. My thirst and perseverance for success helps me in all areas of my life.

4. Learner

Since I was young I have always had a desire to continuously learn and improve. Due to this quality, I am always asking “why?” and “how?” in order to find a relationship between the final result and the events preceding it.

5. Strategic

This strength relates to me because I am always subconsciously trying to spot patterns and issues with a given scenario. Due to this strength I tend to thoroughly examine many of the problems I am faced with in my life, and quickly come up with a solution.
