G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness

I am from a pretty diverse highschool in Cincinnati and so I feel that my experience in dealing with people from different backgrounds and persuasions has given me the confidence to continue to appreciate a wide range of people and cultures. I plan on attending meetings for Italian Club to broaden my horizon more and I would love to study abroad at least once during my time in college. There is so much to be learned from getting out of one’s comfort zone every once in a while and I have had great experiences in the past doing so.

Original Inquiry

Research is a big part of linguistics which is the field that I am currently majoring in. In order to get a head start on potential careers I definitely intend to take on a job as a research intern either here at OSU or possible something elsewhere. There is a lot of groundbreaking research going on in the field of linguistics all around the world and I would love to get involved in any way that I can.

Academic Enrichment

I plan on taking rigorous courses, firstly because I know it is the best way to set myself up for success, and secondly because I need a certain amount of rigor to stimulate my brain. Otherwise, I get bored in class and this can actually lead to a dip in my grades. I plan on taking classes both in the linguistics department and in the CSE department in order to prepare myself for my intended focus in Computational Linguistics. These classes will by no means be easy, but they will be stimulating, and will set me up well for my current carreer track.

Leadership Development

I intend to participate in as many clubs as my schedule permits me throughout my time here at Ohio State. One of the opportunities that has recently caught my attention is the UnderLings club affiliated with the linguistics department which would give me the opportunity to do some community outreach teaching kids at a local highschool about linguistics. I would be happy to take on a leadership role in whatever organizations I end up participating in and I see this as a very important factor in preparing me for any future occupation.

Service Engagement

The community outreach part of the UnderLings club is appealing to me because I know that organizations like this can have a huge effect on on people’s lives, especially younger folk. This is also a great way to make connections and friends nearby, making Columbus feel more like home to me. I would love to help with the process of imparting information about my interest with young people, and hope that it leads to others discovering their passions as well.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. Artifacts

[Artifacts are the items you consider to be representative of your academic interests and achievements. For each entry, include both an artifact and a detailed annotation.  An annotation includes both a description of the artifact and a reflection on why it is important to you, what you learned, and what it means for your next steps.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen.
