About Me

My name is Connor Leighton and I am a business scholar from Barrington Illinois. I plan to study accounting and my career goals are to attain an executive position in the business world. I enjoyed playing football all four years of my high school career. I also learned a lot from the charity work I did with Blessings in a Backpack. My work experience has been as a lifeguard for two summers.

Year in Review

Overall this year was extremely helpful in allowing me to learn more about myself, what I want to do, and who I see myself becoming. The year was a huge step in terms of academic difficulty compared to freshman year. This was very challenging initially, but I was able to adjust after some time. I can honestly say that I have never been so busy in my life, but I feel I am better for it because now I have the experience to understand just what it is that motivates me, and drives me towards a goal. Something else this year allowed me to work on was my time management. I became a lot more involved with my student organizations, and with school, so it was important for me to work on keeping track of time more efficiently and making sure I stay focused each day. I found that setting small achievable goals that can be accomplished one at a time is the most productive way to tackle larger tasks. Trying to take on huge missions at once can be overwhelming, and sometimes impossible. That is why it is always important to be reasonable with yourself and don’t try to do the impossible. Another thing I worked on was procrastination. I have always had trouble with procrastinating work, and waiting until the last possible minute to do most things. However, this year has forced me to complete things in advance in order to allow time for other commitments. I am very glad that I was able to work on this because I understand how important it can be in the real world to not put things off. Further, I would like to put myself in a situation where procrastination isn’t even an afterthought or something to be considered. All in all, this year was a year of growth, discovery, and challenges that transformed me as an individual and young professional. I am truly thankful for all the experiences I took part in, and hope to have many similar one’s this coming year. If it weren’t for years like this where would all of us be?

Artifacts

tassle

The tassel we received the first weekend of being here gives me motivation everyday to do well in school. For me it represents the end goals of graduation and to never lose sight of what everything I am doing is for. I keep it in front of my desk so that whenever my eyes glance at it I am reminded of the reason I am doing all of my work. Having constant view of this helps me get through busy days of work and studying and reminds me of my plans for the future.
