My Goals

It’s important to set goals for yourself in order to stay motivated and focused throughout your life. Whether they are small goals you want met by the end of the week or larger ones you hope to meet in a few years. Setting and striving to achieve goals are crucial to success in life. With that being said, here are mine.

Though the semester is nearly over, my goal is to really just pass with grades I find satisfactory. This semester has been extremely hard for me due to COVID, mental health, and trying to adjust as a first year. I feel like pursuing this goal is important to me because I want to prove to myself that despite all that is going on, I can still perform on my schoolwork. The steps that I need to take in achieving this goal is really focusing on these end of semester assignments, preparing for exams, and just trying to give it all I got in these last couple of weeks, so it can pay off in the end.

For this school year, my goal is to make more connections on campus. I struggle with connecting with people and I feel like I’m missing out on that true college experience. I especially want more connections within STEM EE Scholars because I need to build some form of camaraderie with the people that I am in this program with. Which is why pursuing this goal is so important to me. I feel like making connections in this program and in life in general is crucial to my success. The steps that I can take to achieve this goal is going to more STEM events, getting out of my comfort zone and ask people to hang out so we can get to know each other, and take advantage of the fact that I live on the STEM scholars floor in Houston and meet people here.

My goal for undergraduate studies is to graduate as a psychology major with a double minor. Since I switched my major to something I feel that’s easier, I feel like it opens up space for me to be able to take two minors. Even with the major change it will be a lot, but I think I can handle it and I want to achieve it. Pursuing this is important to proving to myself that I can go beyond my limits and do things that might seem tough or overwhelming. The steps that I can take to make this possible are finding two minors that I’m interested in and passionate about, learning to manage my time better so I can fit in the work load, and continuing to perform in my classes so I can get the credit hours necessary to graduate with a psychology major and two minors.
