Come from Away

On April 9th, I went to see a musical called “Come from Away.” The MUNDO organization arranged the trip. The musical was about what happened in a Canadian town during the week following September 11th, 2001. The musical showed the audience an international perspective on the catastrophe. It also encouraged compassion and caring and taught a lesson on the importance of community to the audience.
I went to this event because it fulfilled my personal goals. Over winter break, I went on a trip with MUNDO to New York to see this musical. However, the show was canceled. I was glad to finally see it because I have never seen a Broadway musical before, so I think it was a good experience. I’d recommend this musical to anyone who has not seen it.

Global Engagement Night: Discovering Global Dance

This month I went to the Global Engagement’s event called “Night: Discovering Global Dance.” The host of this event were two members of the Global Engagement club. At the event, I watched and participated in different dances. It was a fun and unique experience to see dances from other times and places.

This event applies to both my IA scholars and personal interests. I went to this event because I believe it is necessary to be aware of other cultures. I also personally love dancing and seeing other people dance. I think this experience was purposeful because I experienced many different cultures and styles of dancing.

CameroonFest

This month I went to the CameroonFest on February 2nd, 2022. This event was a peace corps event. The three peace corps volunteers, Mary Rodriguez, Alexander Amador, and Jamie Rice, shared their experiences from Cameroon during the event.

Ukrainian Society Bake Sale

Today, February 25th, I went to the Ukraine bake sale. The Ukrainian Society organized the bake sale. They had many different goods to sell, and I donated to them. A representative of The Ukrainian society told me that they will donate the proceeds from the bake sale to a charity called “Revive Ukrainian Soldiers.”
I went to this event because I heard the news about the tragedy in Ukraine and wanted to support the Ukrainian Society’s cause. I also took some photos of the event (Ukrainian Society Bake Sale Photos).

IA Second-year Series Project Panel

The event I went to was the second-year series. It was a second-year project panel on Nov 30 at 6 pm. The host of the event was Megan Kenner. At the event, I saw examples of projects students did in the past.
The projects highlighted in this event were about leadership and service. I learned about the DICE program from the multicultural center. Even if I do not plan to do the DICE program as my IA project, I would want to do it in the future.
During the event, Megan talked about how covid-19 affected past projects. Megan talked about how Covid-19 impacted her project. She said she originally wanted to study abroad. I applied to the CLS study abroad scholarship for my project. After listening to these examples, even if my project is also be affected by the virus, I know I will still be able to prepare for it and present it as my project.
I also like that I got to see an example of Megan Kenner’s project. I think this event was valuable to me because I got to see examples of projects, and the event helped me plan for my project.

IA LinkedIn Workshop

This event was very informative. I recently finished my LinkedIn profile for one of my business classes. This event provided applicable information to me that will allow me to continue improving my new page. This event was helpful toward my professional goals because, with a revised LinkedIn page, I will be able to show my skills in an appealing way to potential employers.

The event was also very fascinating. I heard so many tips about making a desirable LinkedIn page that would never have crossed my mind. For example, Tyler Cummin explained why a person should not upload their resume to LinkedIn. They said not to upload it because people will not Link with you to hear more from you if you already have all your information available. They also said not to give out your personal contact information for similar reasons. I felt like that point was also a helpful safety tip.

Global Education Fair

I went to the Global Education Fair on September 9th at the Ohio Union in Archie Griffin Ballroom. There were many different booths at the fair to share information about their programs related to global education. There were booths for many world languages like Spanish and Portuguese, and there were also booths by common majors like nursing and public health. I wanted to go to this event because I wanted more information about studying abroad. I also wanted to learn about scholarships and other abroad programs offered by the university.

I went to the Fisher booth because I wanted information on study abroad as a fisher international business student. The representative gave me valuable information on the programs available and where to find them. They also talked about scholarships opportunities available to those who want to study abroad.

I also whet to the Global Engagement booth. It is a program designed to create opportunities for international students to get involved and connect with the Colombus community. The program matches American students with international students for cultural discussions. I am curious about it because I love to learn about other languages and cultures.

I wanted to go to this event because I am very interested in being involved with people globally. Dr. Mary Rodriguez inspired me to become involved in people’s lives in a meaningful way. I hope to use what I learn in developing my future goals.

A student Perspective on community organizing Event

The event was “O-H-I-Organizing A student Perspective on Community Organizing.” From this event, I learned community organizing is anything that gets people involved in making changes. The host of the event was Clair Ruth, and the co-hoast was Shruti Nayak. The panelists were Regina Loayza and Natanya Koshy from IGNITE organization, Destiny Brown from the USG organization, and Mitchell Pinsky from the SDA organization.

The purpose of the event was to share people’s journeys to becoming involved organizers in their communities. It also focused on the details in working with grassroots organizations and advocating for change.

Destiny Brown talked about protesting and giving a speech at the capital and meeting congresspeople. Mitchell Pinsky disclosed their experience with the school massacre in Florida. Mitchell Pinsky saw the impact of gun violence, and it sparked interest in becoming involved. Natanya Koshy talked about how IGNITE brings together people with passions and empowers its members to advocate for change.

I wanted to go to this event because I believe people must be involved in their communities to improve and change life for everyone. Additionally, I was interested in activism organizations and the challenges to becoming involved in my community. Therefore this event was very informative and motivating.
