2nd Year In Review

During my second year, I have grown immensely in many different aspects. Academically, I have become a stronger student by using what I have learned from my classes during the first year and applying that to my second year. By doing so, I created a solid foundation to get the most from future classes and to expand my breadth of knowledge beyond the classroom. The honors contract is a perfect example of how I hope to grow as a student. With the honors contract, I have more control over my classes such that I can achieve my future goal of being a data scientist. Using the contract, I plan to take classes related to machine learning and math alongside my data analytics course load. Regarding global awareness, I got the chance to take classes that opened my world relating to diversity inside and outside the US. I learned about many issues and cultures that I did not know before. In the end, I plan to take more classes to diversify my view of the world. Professionally, I learned a lot of skills applicable to my field of work such as R and SQL. Through my classes and experiences in my second year, I gained insight and practical experience into what it takes to become and be a professional in the world of data and analytics. Through my psychology and stats classes, I was also able to see in-depth how the research was conducted, and the big role data and analytics played in it. To grow in the research world, I plan to look for research opportunities where I can apply my data and analytics expertise. Relating to the leadership aspect, I helped found a new OSU organization called RobotWars at OSU which we plan to expand to have many different categories of robots such as AI robots that will compete against each other. Personally, I have grown a lot. I have matured and learned many good skills and habits for my life in the future. Furthermore, I volunteer tutored other students in a game called League of Legends for the Buckeye Gaming Collective. Not only did the students I tutored gain a lot of knowledge, the tutoring experience also allowed me to see new depths to the game that I did not see before. This experience was so much fun that I do plan to become more involved in the gaming community by volunteering to help new players. Overall, my second year was very fruitful because of all the diverse and rich experiences I had in and outside of the academic world. My plans for the summer were to simply explore the world of data and analytics more through learning new techniques and languages, then applying it to real-life problems and projects that I wanted to solve.

Artifacts

[Artifacts are the items you consider to be representative of your academic interests and achievements. For each entry, include both an artifact and a detailed annotation.  An annotation includes both a description of the artifact and a reflection on why it is important to you, what you learned, and what it means for your next steps.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. Year in Review

G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: In order to develop my global awareness I plan to continue taking classes outside my major that interest me and broaden my view of the world. Currently, in my very first semester in college, I am taking French which has continued to show me new things that I have never realized before and all the depth and breadth of French culture. Next semester, I will be taking The Art and Visual Culture of East Asia to continue to develop my global awareness. I am interested in studying abroad because I believe it can add so much more to my education and also help me recognize the importance of global awareness. Lastly, I hope to become more involved in little more cultural organizations and activities in order to expand my interests and global awareness. I am currently involved in VSA and APIDA Cohort and have learned a lot from being involved and hope to become more involved.

Original Inquiry: For now, I am not sure what I will be researching or doing, but I do hope to get involved in any research that intrigues me. Being a data analytics major does not allow for much original inquiry but allows me to get involved with a lot of different projects such as research and etc. Furthermore, to expand my field of knowledge on data analytics and maybe allow me to have original inquiry I plan to specialize in data analytics and take a lot of high level coursework.

Academic Enrichment: To pursue academic excellence I am planning to take a lot of high level coursework right now and in the future to challenge myself and learn. Moreover, I plan to get involved in more student organizations related to my major or goals like Big Data & Analytics Association and etc. to discover how else I can be better prepared in and out of the classroom by learning more about my field of interest. In addition to my academics in the classroom, I will also supplement my education by learning coding languages on my own time. Lastly, I also plan to specialize in data analytics and planning out a double major in mathematics as well.

Leadership Development: In order to develop my leadership, I plan to become most involved in organizations and activities I am most passionate so I can also truly enjoy and be my best at whatever I may be doing. Right now, I have no specific leadership plans but I would like to be more involved in certain organizations and maybe develop leadership along the way. For now I plan to organize myself now in my academics and personal life so I can be better able to commit in being a good leader in the future.

Service Engagement: In general, I intend to become involved in volunteering by being involved in some organizations that can help enable me to do so. I hope to be able volunteer in a medically related field to help broaden my view and interest and to be able to see if I am truly interested in going pre-med or something along those lines. But all in all, I do plan to volunteer a lot more to broaden my scope in the world and to help wherever I can.
