Cover Crop Workshop to be held in Licking County

There will be a cover crop cost-share workshop available to farmers in Licking County who plant cover crops. The sign up will be with the Licking County Soil and Water Conservation Office. To help with decisions on planting cover crops we will be providing a cover crop workshop at the Slater Bros. Farm  10001 Canal Rd. “Grill Smart” hands on grilling class at the Extension Office

Grilling season is here! On Friday, June 21st we will be hosting an evening class that is the perfect way to start your weekend. We are bringing a very popular program to Licking County. You will learn to work with multiple cuts of beef, pork, and poultry and to understand the differences and the appropriate cooking methods involved. Grilling provides a great opportunity to gather with friends while preparing a meal. We want to help you learn to prepare your meat in a safe manner that preserves the flavor. “Managing your Woodlands” program taking place in Licking County

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry is offering a program at the Swinehart Family Property on Dorsey Mill Rd near Newark. This program will provide education on many aspects of managing a woodlot. Licking County Farm Tour July 13th

Licking County Farm Bureau, in partnership with Licking County OSU Extension and Licking County Soil and Water Conservation District, is hosting a Summer Farm Tour.  The farm tour will be held July 13, 2019, starting out from Lynd Fruit Farm, 9090 Morse Road at 8 a.m. From there, participants will board buses and visit the three separate farms. Youth Farm Safety Day Camp Save the Date 7-23-19

Safety is an important issue for anyone and those living in rural environments face even bigger challenges. Send your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews or neighbors to our Farm Safety Day Camp. OSU Licking County Extension is partnering with The Licking Valley FFA to bring fun and safety together. We are still working on the details but are looking at topics like ATV safety, water rescue, and animal handling. This daylong camp was a favorite 10 years ago and now we are bringing it back. Save the date of 7-23-19 and we will provide more details soon.

Licking County Sheep Show June 8th!

The Licking County Sheep Improvement Association is hosting a show on Saturday June 8th at the Hartford Fairgrounds. This show will provide a great opportunity to show your breeding sheep and market lambs prior to the fair. Sheep A.I. Day in Licking County. Sign up deadline is quickly approaching.

Have you ever considered using artificial insemination to rapidly increase the genetic diversity of your flock or to produce superior offspring for show and replacement breeding stock, but was unable to do so due to the cost? If so, look no further. All thanks to the Licking County Sheep Improvement Association, Ohio shepherds now have the opportunity to expand the genetics of their flocks in using A.I. techniques with the services being provided by Reproduction Specialty Group – Dr. Tad Thompson, DVM. There are many factors that you should consider when deciding if your timber is ready to harvest. Unfortunately, many woodland owners hastily make that decision when a prospective buyer knocks on their door. This webinar will focus mainly on the financial considerations of harvesting timber, but we’ll also explore the role of landowner objectives, invasive species, regeneration and other factors to contemplate before deciding to harvest your timber. We’ll wrap things up with a brief review of how to successfully conduct a timber harvest. Continue reading
