Global Awareness

I plan on studying abroad during my undergraduate career to fully engage and understand another culture outside of the United States. I am minoring in Spanish, so not only will I learn a new language that makes me more able to engage with people from different places, but I will study the culture and history of Hispanic countries. I can then use this knowledge to visit, work, and learn in hispanic countries in the future. In addition, I am currently specializing in comparative politics in Political Science, so many of the classes I have taken have focused on other countries and their political orientation. For example, I have taken courses evaluating the governments of developing countries and Latin American countries, in addition to the Canadian Political system. This particular course is going to help me while I am interning in the Parliament this summer, where I will gain more professional policy experience while traveling and exploring another country.

Original Enquiry

I plan on doing research projects throughout my undergraduate career, both by engaging the opportunities offered by the Political Science department, but also through research projects in other classes I take. I will fully engage myself in learning new things and exploring new topics in all areas of my education. In some of the courses I have taken thus far, I have studied how to use data visualizations to support research, while examining the differences between developing countries, the influence of immigration on political activism, and the circulation of firearms in the United States. I hope to continue using the skills I have learned, in addition to learning more skills in the future, to assist me in further research in my collegiate career,

Academic Enrichment

During my undergraduate career, I will fully engage and work hard in all of my classes so I can gain the most knowledge I possibly can. Whether this be in the classroom, study groups, or office hours, I plan on utilizing my time on campus to ensure I do well in all of my classes and am beyond prepared for a career upon college. I plan on continuing to be a part of the Honors program at Ohio State, while taking courses in varying departments and colleges to fully enrich my experience and knowledge while I am here.

Leadership Development

In the next four years, I plan on becoming involved and leading activities and learning on campus. Through extracurricular involvement, I plan on gaining leadership positions and learning new skills. In addition, I will gain leadership experience through jobs and internships, which will not only help further my studies but will also provide leadership opportunities. So far, I have had leadership experience as an Assistant Director of Workshops in OSU Votes, and I hope to strengthen leadership through other positions in this organization, in addition to Undergraduate Student government, in the future.

Service Engagement

During my undergraduate studies, I plan on joining clubs and associations that focus on helping the community and people in the Columbus area. So far, I am a member of Alpha Phi Omega, a service fraternity that focuses on giving back to both local and national organizations and communities through volunteering and fundraising. In addition, I will also participate in BuckeyeThon, a The Ohio State University event that raises money for Nationwide Children’s Hospital. I will also participate in other service events on campus, such as blood drives or clothing donations.
