Venezuela, Now?

The protests in Venezuela has lasted for already one month and it seems it will go further. Their demands are four:

  • Removal from office of the Supreme Court justices who issued the 29 March ruling
  • General elections in 2017
  • Creation of a “humanitarian channel” to allow medication to be imported to counter the severe shortages in Venezuela
  • Release of all the “political prisoners”

Death number:

Until April 28th, the death number has increased to 30. The president Maduro said he wanted to stop the violence here.

How did government responded?

President Maduro has ordered a 60% increase in the country’s minimum wage, effective from Monday (1st May 2017).Venezuela has one of the world’s highest inflation rates, which could hit 720% this year according to the International Monetary Fund. People are suffering from extreme poverty now.

What’s next?

The pposition leader Henrique Capriles has told the BBC that early general elections are the only way to put an end to the country’s crisis. They strongly demanded for the election on 2017.

40th anniversary of Argentina human rights group–“The Mothers of Plaza”

This group was born on 1977, April  30. At first, there were 14 women gathering to protest. Their sons disappeared in the time of military rule starting on 1976. What they demanded is to ask where were their sons. This gathering is held every Thursday. But till now, they still did not know the answers.

Cuba Military Plane Crushed

On April 29th 2017, a Cuba military plane crushed in the province of Artemisa on a flight from Playa Baracoa, just outside the capital Havana. Eight people on the plane are all dead. The causes of accident are unclear. The government is still investigating.
