My First Semester at OSU

My first semester at Ohio State has been a very exciting experience. Coming into college, I did not know much and there was a lot I was unsure about. I had no idea what college was like, and I wasn’t even sure if Ohio State would be the right college for me. At the beginning of the semester, I was nervous about making friends, my classes, and the overall college experience. Although my classes made me nervous at first, I am doing well in all of them and have learned a lot from my professors and TAs. I was nervous that I would not make any friends, yet I have met so many wonderful people and have made a few close friends. At the beginning of the semester I was nervous about the general college experience, but after my first semester, I am happy to say I love college and I am happy I chose to attend The Ohio State University.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my first semester at OSU. I have definitely grown as a person, and there are many lessons I have learned by being in college. I have learned that it is okay to ask for help and ask questions. This semester taught me that being yourself is super important, especially when attending a university as big as OSU. By meeting new people and making the close friends that I have, I have learned that it’s not what you’re doing but who you’re doing it with that matters. This semester has helped me grow and taught me many valuable life lessons.

This first semester has been very exciting. I have met many lovely people, had amazing experiences, and learned a lot. I have enjoyed attending the football games and cheering on the Buckeyes. I have made a few close friends and they have become like a family to me here on campus. I have had fun exploring Columbus and getting to know this lovely city. The Humanities Scholars has given me the opportunity to participate in many cool activities as well. I especially enjoyed the trip to Chicago over fall break. I am looking forward to future events and activities with the Humanities Scholars, and I can’t wait to get to know my fellow Humanities scholars even better in the coming semester.

Humans of OSU

“My name is Jaimen Hood. I was born in Indiana. My parents got divorced when I was young and then I moved to Cincinnati with my mom and three older sisters. We have fostered a total of eight kids. My family adopted three boys. The boys and I did not get along at first, but we are pretty close now which is good. I did martial arts for about seven years, and then I started wrestling my freshman year of high school. I ended up placing second in wrestling my senior year of high school. I graduated from Mason High School. I now wrestle for The Ohio State University and I am studying to become a mechanical engineer. Ohio State ended up giving me a diversity scholarship, and the university is relatively close to my home. So far, Ohio State is pretty nice. I’ve met some really great people and made some really close friends already, and I can’t wait for the next few years.” – Jaimen Hood, The Ohio State University Class of 2021

My First Week at OSU

My first week at Ohio State was overwhelming but extremely exciting.  I met so many friendly people on my floor and through my scholars program and I am excited to get to know all of the better this upcoming year. The welcome week events such as Buckeye Kickoff, Convocation, and the Zedd concert made me feel connected and at home here at OSU. Surprisingly, it was not as hard to find my classes as I originally thought it would be. Although some of my classes are somewhat intimidating, I am looking forward to attending them and getting to know my professors. After first moving in, I was a little homesick. I especially miss seeing my dog every day.  However, my first week was still very exciting and I am looking forward to this upcoming year.

Coming to Ohio State, there are many things about which I am excited and nervous. I am looking forward to meeting new people, especially in the Humanities program. My major is something I am extremely excited about because I am passionate about education and someday becoming a teacher. Something I am most looking forward to is the football games because I love football and I am excited to cheer on the Buckeyes. Although there are many things I am excited about, there are a few things that make me nervous as well. I am nervous about meeting new people, especially because I am still close to a few of my high school friends who go here. A few of my classes, particularly my English class, are intimidating and make me nervous.

I have many expectations for my OSU experience. I hope to make many new friends, not just spend all my time with my high school friends. I want to do well in my classes and get to know my professors. I am looking forward to getting know my fellow Humanities scholars. I hope to participate in events with the Humanities Scholars, and I am especially excited for the Chicago trip this semester.  I am excited to have the Humanities program as a support system during my OSU experience.
