L- Leadership Development

I was picked to be the Assistant to the Vice President of Membership for my sorority. This experience has taught me so much already and I have not even done that much work yet. I am responsible for helping the Vice president help plan recruitment 2020 and also help with all of the miscellaneous  things that need to be done for the sorority and its members. Some of the things that I am in charge of is making sure that everyone knows what they are required to do for recruitment by organizing and running recruitment workshops, making sure that the right number of people are present for events, budgeting and buying decorations, food, etc. and much more.

Through this experience I have gained so much confidence in my ability to talk to people and help organize events. This experience has helped me gain the abilities needed to work with others later in life for my profession and just through other organizations. I am so excited to continue this experience and be able to broaden my leadership abilities. I cannot wait to see all of my hard work be shown during recruitment 2020.

Sophomore Year at The Ohio State University

This year at Ohio State was better than my freshman year. I loved it during my freshman year, but this year I was not as nervous to come to school. This year was full of making new friends and studying for endless hours. I completed both semesters of Organic Chemistry and I could not be happier to be one with that class. I also took a boxing  class during the spring semester and I am very surprised with how much I enjoyed the calls. I liked it so much that I plan on continuing boxing for a while.

This year I became very close with my roommate and have learned how important it is to have close friends to support you. Autumn semester was not my best semester and I was a little defeated during christmas break. My family and friends really helped me gain more confidence in my abilities. I came back in the spring ready to do my best and it was my best semester yet. This year taught me that I can do whatever I put my mind to with a little hard work and support from my friends. I am so excited to return in the autumn and start another new adventure.

A- Interview with Upperclassman

Medical school is a very daunting thing to an incoming freshman. While talking to upperclassman I have learned multiple things about the process to medical school. One thing that I learned is to gain experiences throughout undergrad. This includes things like clubs and time in the hospital. Being just apart of a club is a good thing, but gaining a leadership position and learning how to be a leader would be the most beneficial thing on a medical school application. This would show that you have leadership qualities and the ability to mange people. Also getting experience in a hospital will be very beneficial in the long run. This will help me learn more about a hospital works and maybe even help me learn what I want to do in the medical field later in my life. When the time comes, a good personal letter will help a lot with having a better chance to get into medical school. Like always having good grades throughout undergrad will help in the long run, but having a wholesome application will help the best. Trying to even out all of the areas that medical schools look at on an application will be very helpful to get into medical school. I am very excited to go through my journey that hopefully leads me to medical school and hopefully to my dream of becoming a surgeon.

Year in Review

My first year at Ohio State was an amazing experience. Through HSS I met so many new people and they all impacted my life in so many ways. Each person I met impacted my life in so many ways. Every time I met a new person, I learned something new and grew as a person myself. I joined many clubs throughout my first year including 4 paws for ability, pre-med club, and the happiest club on campus. My favorite club was 4 paws for ability because I loved to see how intelligent these dogs are and I love to hangout with dogs. Next year I am going to be a puppy sitter and will get to teach these dogs all of their tricks that will help them help future kids. I have learned so much by being by myself and being in a different place. I have learned what ways of studying are the best for me and just how to be by myself in general. I have grown as a person throughout all of these new experiences and I can not wait to go back in the fall.

S- Service Hours

For HSS, we had to complete at least 20 hours of service. In the first semester, I attended many service events that HSS had put on. One of the events I went to was the Unverferth House. This is a place where families of patients at the hospital can stay and still be close to the hospital. At the house we went and cleaned the kitchen, living rooms, and bathrooms. We also raked the leaves and mowed the lawn. This trip was to make sure these people felt comfortable being in this house and have to just worry about their family member and nothing else. I also went to the Garden of Hope with many HSS members. At the garden we cleaned it up by pulling weeds and raking to make sure that it was ready for the next season of crops.  I also attended the Ronald McDonald treat bag making that Park-Stradley put on. We just made treat bags for the Ronald McDonald house filled with candy and little toys that went to children during Halloween time. For the second semester, I participated in Buckeyethon. This is an event that raises money for pediatric cancer that is going to help hopefully find a cure in the future. I volunteered at the night shift and the whole 12 hours, everybody was raising money and having fun with multiple children from the hospital. During the first and second semester when I was home, I went and worked at the food pantry at my church. At the food pantry I helped people pick out what food they wanted and helped carry their bags to their car or wherever they were going. I am looking forward to getting to create my own service project and help out throughout the community.

About ME

My name is Nicole Lange. I am currently a freshman at The Ohio State University and I am from Tipp City, OH. I chose OSU because of all the opportunities that are available at this school. I also love the school spirit that everyone seems to have here and just the love they have for the school. My plan right now is to become a Pediatric Surgeon. I have always wanted to be some type of doctor and working with children is something that I love to do. I know that being in Health Science Scholar program will help me further my education and help me go towards my career goal. I am very excited to get started here at OSU and learn many new things that will help me in the future.
