Glenn Martinez

Dr. Martinez has over a decade experience in language access research. He has published dozens of articles on language access in healthcare and his research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, the National Endowment for the Humanities, Ohio Humanities, and the US Department of Education.

Dr. Martinez is professor of Hispanic Linguistics and director of the Center for Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the Ohio State University. His research focuses on sociolinguistics and applied linguistics of Spanish-speaking communities in the United States and along the U.S.-Mexico border. His most recent vein of research is in the area of language and health care. He has extensively investigated language policies in the health delivery system in the United States and abroad, the linguistic practices of Spanish-speaking patients and providers in healthcare settings, and the development and evaluation of language pedagogy for healthcare professionals.
