Artifacts

[Artifacts are the items you consider to be representative of your academic interests and achievements. For each entry, include both an artifact and a detailed annotation.  An annotation includes both a description of the artifact and a reflection on why it is important to you, what you learned, and what it means for your next steps.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

I have carefully selected an academic course load that will challenge me academically and cultivate a deep appreciation for diversity and unique differences. In my classes, I am presented with a framework of material that allows abstract thinking and reasoning to flourish and resonate within me. I am also given the opportunity to work with unique individuals from various cultural backgrounds and experiences. My involvement in the honors program has allowed me to connect with my peers through various socials and activities that are offered. I participate in various community service projects that allow me to pay it forward while developing relationships with my peers. I am involved in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Club and I am grateful for the community of scholars that have welcomed me and appreciate the conversation that resonates between us.

As an undergraduate student, I plan to pursue research beginning the second semester of my freshman year. I am interested in conducting within the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and hope to find a lab that allows me to have a research position throughout the year. I have also been given the opportunity to conduct field work in folklore through Ohio Field School. I will spend a week over spring break in southeast Ohio collecting folklore in Appalachia Ohio.

I am following the academic curriculum set for a double major in biochemistry and English. I chose to study biochemistry because it is a subject I am deeply passionate about. I have chosen to add English as my second major because I am interested in the curriculum it presents. Each major provides an academic community in which I believe I will flourish.

I am involved in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Club and attend the scheduled meetings. My involvement in this club allows me to connect with individuals who share a similar passion for the sciences as I do while providing a framework for networking and mentorship. I would describe my leadership style as intellectual and direct. I like to work efficiently and effectively within a group while allowing grounds for academic development to flourish.

I volunteer in my local church nursery and food drives in Vinton County, Ohio, and plan to continue my service there when I visit. I plan to engage with community service in Columbus by volunteering in the 2019 Kind Columbus “Feed The Funnel” Community Service Project. My previous service has allowed me to understand the problem at hand and be proactive in my service and aware of the presented need.
