As a Latin student at Walsh Jesuit High School, we were required to participate in the National Latin exam in Latin I and Latin II. In both years, I was commended for my performance on the exam. On the Latin I exam, I received a cum laude certficate. On the Latin II exam, I received a maxima cum laude certificate and a silver place medal. I spent much time studying for the exams. Some of my fellow classmates did not on the other hand since it was not taken for a grade. I enjoyed Latin and I wanted to succeed. My classmates looked up to me in Latin; I did not want to let them down on this exam. I worked hard to study for the exam and it paid off in the end. I did not have to take the final exam for the class since I did so well on the National Latin Exam. It helped to show me that working hard is very important. My success with the exams established a great amount of confidence for me going forward in Latin and my other classes.
