Pesticide producers will be quick to defend their products, despite their lack of scientific backing. To better prepare yourself to resist their propaganda it is good to go over what is claimed and why it is wrong. In Bayer’s (the makers of RoundUp) “Answers to Common Questions about Glyphosate” page they try to present themselves as a trustworthy source while they defend Glyphosate, a dangerous chemical found in their pesticide. They claim that Glyphosate does not cause cancer, and avoid mentioning other dangers of Glyphosate by stating that it “can be used safely” (Note that they don’t say it’s safe). With vague wording, they say that the EPA “conduct comprehensive evaluations to ensure herbicides, such as glyphosate, pose no unreasonable risk to the environment”, and while it’s unknown why the EPA does not find glyphosate to pose an unreasonable risk to the environment, you’ll note that Bayer concedes that the chemical does pose a risk to the environment. When looking at any material online, especially information about pesticides, it’s best to look at it with a critical eye. Look at what’s not being said, and why. In this case, that would be Bayer not saying Glyphosate is safe, because it isn’t.
