My Favorite Canvas

This piece of art was my final for my senior year painting class. Of all of the projects I made in high school this was the most meaningful to me. I carefully selected strips of newspaper containing statistics, news articles about my hometown and high school, and an article about soldiers battling PTSD. These strips of newspapers, to me, emulate different aspects of the world as we know it. The good, the bad, the safe, the dangerous. Each scene painted along the top and bottom represent physical and geological aspects of our world including the four seasons and four different landscapes (urban, suburban, rural, and desert) to show the magnificence and differences in our world. In the rural scene specifically, there is a black sheep amongst the white sheep to remind me that it is okay to stand out and be different than others. This canvas reminds me how truly wonderful our world even amidst the good and bad we are surrounded by on a daily basis.

RealLife

RealLife is a Christian student organization on campus that I have had the privilege of getting involved in since coming to Ohio State. Being a part of RealLife has helped me find my identity in Christ more strongly than any other point in my life. I have met people with whom I know I will maintain lifelong friendships, gotten closer to God, and connected myself with other people around campus who I would have otherwise not been able to meet. Joining RealLife has made the transition from high school to college seem seamless and natural. I have been able to share my faith with people around me, which I had never had the confidence to do, and still struggle with on occasion. Thankfully, with such a loving community around me, I can only imagine where God will take me and my faith in the years to come.

Industrial and Systems Engineering

Hey everyone! I am from North Royalton, Ohio, which is a suburb of Cleveland. Currently, I am an industrial and systems engineering major and I am also pursuing a minor in education. Ultimately, my goal in life is to help people reach the goals they aspire to reach, so if I can do that through either engineering or education, I will be satisfied. I’m very excited to be part of HES this year to get involved in volunteering and connecting with peers. Since coming to Ohio State, I’ve gotten involved in RealLife, SWE, and community service on campus. I love hiking and taking photos of nature and I hope to travel as much as I can during and after college.
