About Me

IMG_20140522_232252

My name is Katie Kwon, and I am majoring in Microbiology and minoring in French. I am a second-year International Affairs scholar following the International Community track. My work experience includes library shelver, lab assistant for Dr. Herman, Kohl’s associate, and office assistant. Freshman year I volunteered on-and-off with the Columbus Rotaract Club, worked as an OA at Smith-Steeb, and made the Dean’s List autumn 2014 and spring 2015. This year I plan on continuing as an OA at Residence on 10th and as a lab assistant for Dr. Herman. In addition to these roles, I am the secretary of the OSU Kendo Club which is in the process of achieving sports club status. My goals for this year include applying for the Critical Language Scholarship to South Korea, finding work/research at a nearby medical center, maintain and help the Kendo club grow, volunteer more regularly, find an internship, shadow doctors, improve my communication skills, work out the details of the next few years, plan a French-language study abroad trip, and join service group ENCompass. Post-graduation, if I decide to go to graduate school, I will take one year off before enrolling to work and save money. I am also considering medical school, in which case I will apply to become an Army Reserve Doctor. Fields I am interested in include psychiatry, family medicine, dermatology, pharmacology, and laboratory research. My long-term goals are to become fluent in Korean and French, to use either or both languages to some capacity in a career, to travel, to strive to become the best in whichever field I choose to pursue, to share my love of languages and traditional cultures with others, and to try new things. As a learner, I respond well to visual, hands-on activities and remember best by doing repeatedly. Skills and qualities I have to offer include open-mindedness, responsibility, maturity, considerateness, and attentiveness.
