Freshman Year: A New Beginning

It is without doubt that the transition from high school to college is one of the hardest challenges one may face. Although I lived only half an hour away from the Ohio State University campus and have visited countless times, I never expected the adversities of living on campus independently. Through my first year, I have had to adjust to the drastic differences in lifestyle between my peers, overcome my introversion when surrounded by others all day, and most importantly, having a good sense of time management. In class, I have become more comfortable asking questions and sharing my opinions openly. I have also been spending more time forming connections with my classmates and professors to improve my social and communication skills.

Service Engagement

Giving back to my community has always been one of my top priorities. I grew up in a wonderfully diverse and supportive community, with people from all walks of life wherever I go. From these unique individuals, I have learned the value of understanding, kindness, and gratitude. My community has given me the opportunity to connect and better understand the physical and cultural differences that may separate us, and those that unite us. I am thankful for my community in giving me these experiences, so in return, I am always finding ways to give back.

APIA Scholars Webinar: Self-Care and Stress Management

During these trying times, it is extremely difficult for many of us to aim towards our future when we are struggling to manage the present. Families are falling victim to diseases, losing loved ones, facing financial difficulties, trouble maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and many other challenges that pose a threat to their physical and mental health. Although everyone is capable of handling a few stressors at a time, it is definitely not advisable to have a constant build-up of these stressors and overshadowing negativity. Therefore, as someone who has experienced high levels of anxiety, I thought this would be a good opportunity to learn and better understand the methods to managing my stress.
