Types of Weather!

I first wanted to look at standards for kindergartners in the science area. There is a lot of attention and focus on math and literacy right now in the education system, so I wanted to look at topics in kindergarten science. I found a standard about weather types and changes in weather over both a short and long period of time. My main goal was to get correct information and display it in a way that is simple for kids to understand. I found a youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sn6GLgaTY0M) and a website (https://www.twinkl.com/teaching-wiki/different-types-of-weather-conditions) about types of weather for kids and first watched that and took notes. I took note of key ideas I knew I needed such as sunny, cloudy, rainy and stormy. I found characteristics for each type of weather. I then made sure to add descriptive words that would help teach about the temperature that comes from each type of weather. After my research, I used canva to include information about types of weather, characteristics of that weather and clothes we may wear in that weather. I took into account the balance of pictures and words, matching color theme throughout and different fonts and size of words. I wanted to make sure to add pictures to help visualize those words. Kindergartners rely on pictures because they are in the process of learning to read. Color is very important and when I first made the infographic I had a white background and I realized that the color of the background also matters, I used 3 different color backgrounds to separate the information.. One of the only challenging parts was making sure I liked what it looked like and making sure it would be easy for kindergarteners to understand. I think that this is a great visual that will help students understand the different types of weather. In the future I want to also touch on different seasons that this type of weather may occur in, however, seasons can serve as another mini lesson aside from weather.
