G.O.A.L.S.

My G.O.A.L.S at The Ohio State University are aimed to make me a better person and to prepare me for a successful future.

Global Awareness: Students cultivate and develop their appreciation for diversity and each individual’s unique differences.

To accomplish this there are a multitude of options. I have yet to decide which of these options is best for me. I could just take General Education classes that focus on other cultures. But, that will not give me a personal connection to other cultures. Going on a study abroad program or collaborating on projects and research with a diverse group of people would be more beneficial to me.
Original Inquiry: Honors & Scholars students understand the research process by engaging in experiences ranging from in-class scholarly endeavors to creative inquiry projects to independent experiences with top researchers across campus and in the global community.

One of my main reasons for coming to Ohio State for college was so that I could take part in research. Taking part in research will be a focal part of my curriculum. I hope to be able to spend a lot of time in a laboratory doing research and I hope to eventually conduct my own research and investigate specific topics that really interest me.
Academic Enrichment: Honors & Scholars students pursue academic excellence through rigorous curricular experiences beyond the university norm both in and out of the classroom.

My course work at Ohio State will not be easy. I plan for it to be challenging and plan to take many upper level classes in my major. This is another challenge I gladly embrace. In addition to this research will also challenge me to grow academically.
Leadership Development: Honors & Scholars students develop leadership skills that can be demonstrated in the classroom, in the community, in their co-curricular activities, and in their future roles in society.

Learning how to lead can only gained by the experience of leading, an experience I plan to have. Research will allow me the opportunity to lead and work with others to accomplish a common goal. In addition to research being a president of a student organization will also yield this experience. I am the founder and president of “The Happiest Club on Campus: A Disney-themed Club”. With the club my hope is to gain this leadership experience and to provide a fun a stress-free environment for students.
Service Engagement: Honors & Scholars students commit to service to the community.

Spending time and giving back to your community is vital to a successful future. Pay it Forward. I definitely plan to find time at which I can give back to the communities around me, it is not something I take for granted.

About Me

JACK

I am Jack Kucinski. 2016 marks the beginning of my journey at The Ohio State University. I was born and lived my whole life in Midland, MI, until now. Throughout my educational career I have always cared about my educational performance, but I was driven by a goal to understand and learn about as much as I could. As my educational career grew into high school the DNA became an increasingly interesting topic to me. Because of that I have decided to study Molecular Genetics. But my journey will not stop there. I plan to get a PhD. That way I can lead my own research into understanding our DNA because I truly believe that our DNA holds the answers to the toughest medical questions facing humans today. I want to unlock those answers and help make the world a better place. Will this goal be hard to accomplish? Yes. But I am determined to improve this world.

Year in Review

Global Awareness: I have improved my global awareness, so far, by taking three sections of German (1101, 1102, 1103) and a History course on West Africa (3301). To continue to improve my global awareness I am currently considering doing a genetics study abroad program during the summer of 2019.

Original Inquiry: Starting in November of 2017 and into the SP18 semester I started doing Undergraduate Research. Undergrad Research is very important to me. I plan to continue to do research throughout my undergraduate years and hopefully do a thesis also.

Academic Enrichment: My future aspiration is to obtain a Ph.D. in a genetics-related field. This requires a hard classload. The vast majority of my major courses are 4000-level or higher. Also, most of my GE are either honors classes or 3000-level. The course load of high-level classes in addition to pursuing undergraduate research demonstrate my commitment to my education.

Leadership Development: In my first semester on campus I founded, “The Happiest Club on Campus: A Disney Themed Club.” I am currently the president of that club and plan to be the president for the rest of my undergraduate years. This role has allowed me to develop into a leader and improve my communication skills, both things I had struggled with in high school. This leadership experience should help me in the future as my future goal is to lead a research laboratory of my own.

Service Engagement: I currently have not taken part in any service engagements. However, I do plan for that to change. As the president of a club, I am planning on having the club take part in service activities. Our first service activity takes place in early April where we will be working at a soup kitchen for the day. I plan to have the club continue to do service events as long as I am the president.
