Year in Review

My first semester at the Ohio State University was a successful one. I am set to receive strong marks in all of my classes, a feat that I didn’t see as possible earlier in the year given the initial difficulty of the courses I had taken. It took a lot of effort to achieve this as my studying skills coming into college were lacking. Overall, I came out with a stronger dedication to my studies which will come to serve me as I progress through college and for when I turn my attention to other goals.
I have also evolved as a person as a result of spending my first semester at the Ohio State University. I was a very shy person coming into college. In fact, one of the reasons why I chose to attend Ohio State was for the high student population, which would end up forcing me to meet new people. This ended up working, as I believe I have become a more social person after my first semester at Ohio State. In addition to this, living with other Scholars in a very open community that is Barrett House 3rd floor helped me to meet many new people early in the semester. I believe that this served as a catalyst to meeting many new people during my first semester.

Artifacts

My artifact is my running shoes. Since high school, I have been running competitively. The pressure of having to run a faster time every race drove me to work hard in preparation for races. I continue to do this during practices with the Running Club. This has carried over into my academics as I want to continue to get good grades.

About Me

My name is Kyle Kuchynsky and I am a second-year Biomedical Engineering student at the Ohio State University. I am from the small town of Wantagh on the south shore of Long Island. How I ended up at Ohio State, I’m not sure. What I am sure of is that I don’t regret the decision of going here; I’m being challenged academically, I’m meeting many great people through clubs and classes, and I’m maturing faster than I thought was possible.

I love baseball. I started playing when I was 5 and started watching at the late age (considering I’ve played for most of my life) of 15. Like any other kid, I thought I was bound for baseball greatness when I was 12. However, that thought started to crash and burn after getting hip surgery right after my 13th birthday, leaving me on the sidelines while everyone else I knew got better. Ever since then, I was always one step behind everyone else.

While it stunk to not be able to make competitive baseball teams anymore, I made the most of my situation. I joined my high school’s track team after being cut from the school baseball team and grew to love running. My last two years of high school, I did all three seasons of competitive running offered (cross country, indoor track, outdoor track). During that time, my confidence rose through all of the personal records I set, I met many of my high school friends, and I set my life on the path it is on today. I still run in college; I am a member of the Running Club at OSU, where I have found another great group of friends and have set more personal records.
