Post-Conference Experience & Activities for Stimulating Critical Thinking:
- Brainstorm about your experiences today. What questions arise? What did you learn? What is still left unanswered?
- Watch this TedTalk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hoE8mtUS1E
- Use the three question method mentioned in this video and apply it to the main diagnoses of your patient(s) today. Can you answer the questions?
- Think of a problem within nursing or within the clinical world as a whole. Now, brainstorm at least 3 different causes for this issue. Under each of these listed caused, list two possible solutions that may mitigate the problem.
- Code Debriefing and “RE-Simulation”
- How many of us wish that we could relive a code? We would have done A, B, and C differently or would have noticed the very odd symptomology earlier. If my students witness or participate in a code or ERT on the unit, I would like to debrief and talk about the situation. Following this, I would like to re-enact the scenario with my students.
- Questions for students: What would you do first? What would you do next? How would this affect the outcomes any differently? Does this experience make you more comfortable if you were to encounter a similar experience/event in the near future?
