We are actively investigating the emerging neurological and psychiatric indications of Focused Ultrasound Ablation (FUSA). We have participated in the following investigator initiated and multi-center trials:
- ExAblate Transcranial MR Guided Focused Ultrasound for the Treatment of Essential Tremors
- ExAblate Transcranial MRgFUS of the Globus Pallidum for Treatment of Parkinson’s Disease
- Focused ultrasound thalamotomy for the prevention of secondary generalization in focal onset epilepsy
- Exablate(R) blood-brain barrier disruption for the treatment of patients with probable Alzheimer’s disease
Mechanisms underlying efficacy of Focused Ultrasound Ablation (FUSA) – Although FUSA is highly efficacious in some patients, long-term tremor improvement can be variable and suboptimal in up to one third of the patients. We aim to understand the mechanisms underlying the efficacy of FUSA with a goal to develop neuroimaging-based feedback for intraoperative guidance.
