Wildcard Artifact

A “wildcard artifact” of mine is Zumba dancing! I love the whole experience of Zumba, and I was introduced to it here at Ohio State. I have found that participating in this rigorous cardio class is not only fun, but helps me to keep in shape and maintain good care of my body and mind. These classes, put on through Ohio State Recreation, help to reduce stress and provide a workout. I find this relevant to myself and my professional goals because keeping a healthy body and mind is imperative to leading a happy and fulfilling life and career. Through this process I learned a new way of taking care of my body, having fun, relieving stress, and spending quality time with friends while staying healthy. Now, during quarantine, I am even able to continue doing this on my own to stay active and healthy while stuck at home. I believe this experience allowed me to grow as a person as far as taking care of myself and relieving stress.

Year in Review

This year has been so amazing!! Although it didn’t end particularly the way any of us wanted it to, I still had such a fun year and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I made some amazing friends, made incredible memories, and learned A LOT, both academically and about myself as a person. I think I grew the most socially; I learned to be more myself and made some friendships that have given me a better sense of my personality. I also grew a lot as a student: I developed better study techniques and have been able to manage attending classes as well as office hours and studying on my own. I am happy with the way I handled classes along with extracurriculars and self-care, and I plan to carry these lessons with me into my second year of college. HSS has provided a lot of incredible opportunities for me and I look forward to utilizing them again next year!

G.O.A.L.S.

My goal for global awareness is to develop a stronger appreciation for other cultures while here at Ohio State. I am going to set a new goal of visiting another country to see a new culture in person.

My goal for original inquiry is to be exposed to real research and understand the process.

My goal for academic enrichment is to be challenged by my classes and grow as a student.  I wish to continue challenging myself in the classroom.

My goal for leadership development is to show leadership in some way through a group, club, or class. I would like to continue growing as a leader by joining more clubs and taking more opportunities on campus.

My goal for service engagement is to take service opportunities and serve my new community. My new goal is to participate in more service activities than I did this past year.

Reflection:

I believe that my experiences in HSS so far this year relate perfectly to my G.O.A.L.S. For global awareness, I feel that I was able to interact with cultures other than mine a great deal, and I learned a lot. For original inquiry, I was involved in published research through my biology class. I was able to learn a great deal about the process and become acquainted with what it takes to professionally research. For academic enrichment, I was in some of the most difficult classes that I have ever taken, and I believe that I grew as a student through the process. For leadership development, I met my goal by being selected for the HSS Leadership Council. I was able to show leadership for my peers and grow as a leader in this way. For service engagement, I was given the opportunity to participate in many acts of service throughout the Ohio State and Columbus communities.

Artifacts

An artifact that represents my academic interests and achievements is a stethoscope that I was given at the end of a summer seminar I did at Otterbein College. These stethoscopes were handed out to students of the Martin W Essex School after a nursing seminar where we learned CPR, first aid, and how to give vaccinations. The stethoscope is black and silver and reminds me of my goal of becoming a nurse. This is important to me because it keeps me driven and reminds me of all of the hard work that I have put towards my goal. Now that I have applied to The Ohio State College of Nursing, it reminds me why I applied and why I am hoping so strongly to be accepted.

About Me

Hi! My name is Maddie Kreinbrink, I’m a pre-nursing major, and I’m in the Health Sciences Scholars program. A few facts about me are that I love to sing and dance, my favorite shows are The Office and Letterkenny, and my favorite foods are tacos and pasta! I’m from Findlay, Ohio, and I graduated from Findlay High School. The classes I took led me to develop a passion for the Health Sciences, and community volunteering led me to develop a passion for working with children, so my goal is to become a pediatric nurse. My favorite classes throughout high school were Anatomy, Physiology, Physics, and Statistics. I’m most excited to meet new people and go to Buckeye football games with friends. I’m really looking forward to this year, I’ve been wanting to come to OSU for a long time!
