a RATIONAL but PASSIONATE DECISION

I am satisfied with the two recommended jobs, senior computer-aided design (CAD) designers and production supervisors. Not only are the two occupations related to the major I am studying now but also within the scope of my future-work plan that I have considered.

Currently, I am studying the principle of mechanics, physics, and other subjects related to my major. No matter which job I would choose, there is no doubt that all the knowledge should be used in the future. However, if I decide to be a product supervisor, business administration will be the focus of my future study. Whereas senior computer-aided design (CAD) designer is a regular job for the students who major in mechanical engineering.

However, I have to say that these two professions are so different. By which I mean the only thing they may have in common probably is that they are all related to the industry. Senior computer-aided design (CAD) designers develop an effective design to resolve engineering issues and create phased development plans for improving existing engineering designs. Senior CAD designers work with other designers with similar experiences to reach company objectives promptly, and they present their work to the management team for consideration. Furthermore, they develop detailed designs for integrated systems in coordination with engineers and customer requirements.

As for production supervisors, they will supervise an entire plant, or manage a specific division with the plant facility. They also need to make sure that materials and supplies are stocked and that all the equipment is up to date and working properly. Normally, production supervisors would associate directly with their workers and are responsible for seeing that all deadlines are being met.

Work experience is very important for these two occupations. By which I mean the starting salary is not so satisfactory (around $36k for production supervisors and $42k for Senior computer-aided design (CAD) designers). With the continuous growth of work experience, the salary will be greatly improved. By the way, the percentage of “Experienced” in Senior computer-aided design (CAD) designer is 32.6, and 46.6% for these people are “Late Career “. The number of supervisors is 25% and 17% separately. The maximum of the salary of Senior computer-aided design (CAD) designers is $91k while production supervisors would get $75k.

According to the Payscale, both of them are graded as “Highly Satisfied” (4 out of 5) by participating raters. Before choosing my major in college, I have made some plans for my future career and dreams. I have a deep interest in history, but it is not enough to make it as a major I would study in the future. I must consider employment pressure and salary issues. After that, I had an ideological struggle before choosing my current major. In the end, I chose another subject that I am interested in, engineering. It sounds like I have conducted a rational analysis. In fact, the engineering major is still within my interest because interest is one of the motivations for my learning. I hold the view that satisfaction with a job is more important than salary. In my opinion, there is no conflict between satisfaction and salary. Salary is also one of the weighting items of most people’s satisfaction. After all, satisfaction includes not only the love of the job but also the affirmation of the job.

  1. Your work is beautiful and clear with bold fonts. It is reasonable that you will manage the jobs. Of course, if people are pleased about their salary, they are more inclined to satisfy about their jobs. It’s so nice that your interest is suitable for a work with a bright outlook

  2. Hi, Xiangyuan! Almost everyone is facing a choice between interest and reality. I used to have the same situation. I have a passion in making films and being a director. However, I also choose engineering when I entered the university. Although film making isn’t my major, I joined the campus TV station and became a director. Maybe we can’t turn our interests into our majors, we can still chase for our dreams.
