AEV Concept Screening and Scoring

As a team, we analyzed each design (click here for designs) by first using a screening matrix, followed by a more in depth analysis using a scoring matrix. The categories we considered most valuable and crucial to the success of the MCR were stability, aerodynamics, weight, durability, and safety. Characteristics can vary in importance and magnitude, as seen in the scoring table. The screening table, as mentioned before, is a quick analysis in comparison to the prototype by simply using plus (+) or minus (-) signs, while the concept scoring provides a numerical value (0-5) to back up the screening analysis. See below for the team’s analysis:

Score is the product of the rate and weight assigned to that criteria

*We chose not to continue with Tim’s design due to its vertical orientation. Although it has a positive scoring analysis, we as a team determined that due to our resources and timeline, keeping our designs horizontal and combining from there would maximize our productivity. We are, however, going to adopt Tim’s idea of minimizing open space on the AEV and minimizing front and back surface area.
