Integrated Transportation System

Figure 2 – Final Design

System

The teams design concept includes a QR code sticker that will be placed on car windshield.  This code will be scanned upon entering and exiting the parking garage allowing for quick and efficient access to parking spaces. This code will automatically bill the owner of the vehicle and the billing will be able to be tracked via an online phone app. Scanning the code will be a camera that will identify the vehicle.  If the vehicle does not have QR code the camera will scan the vehicles license plate and bill the owner similar to an EZ Pass sytem. This system allows for an alternative system does not require taking a ticket and having to pay at a machine.  Hence, entering an exiting the parking garage will become more efficient. The Buck-I-Scan meets the user need of increased efficiency because it reduces the stopping time at gate entrances and exits.  Additionally, the Buck-I-Scan meets the user need for automated payment because the payment is processed by scanning the QR code.  Furthermore, the user need for cheaper parking will be satisfied because the device will reduce labor costs.

Pains

  1. Slow entry into a parking garage
  2. Slow flow out of a parking garage
  3. Having to handle cash to pay
  4. Trying to find a pay station or having to keep track of tickets

Gains

  1. Increased efficiency when entering the parking garage
  2. Increased efficiency when exiting the parking garage
  3. Automated payment system
  4. Better experience when using parking garages
