Year in Review
[ “Year in Review” is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student. Double Up:
Although I never played fantasy football, many of my friends have managed teams and also played draft kings or ESPN’s Streak for the Cash. I have never liked sports enough to wager anything on games. We came up with the idea for an ICE (Innovation Creativity & Entrepreneurship) project and found that The market is saturated with online gaming sites devoted to only sports so our group decided to make one that catered to all types of betting. We flushed out our ideas a lot and eventually came up with an online platform where users can wager “imaginary points” on everyday events in order to double their balances. Users are able to wager their points on everything from the outcomes of political debates to the number of attendees at an event and outcomes of TV shows etc.
We came up with the idea that the points will not be connected to money directly but they can be exchanged for cash prizes or items such as a PS4 etc. We did market research to validate our idea and found that a majority of the 62 respondents said that they would use it/they saw value in it. Interestingly, we found that of those who responded the majority were women. This is beneficial for our idea because our idea is geared away from sports and the typical “betting type”. Our idea is aimed at customers who would not typically wager on events, as we assumed (often women).
Lastly, we found that cash was the most coveted prize for point exchange followed by gift cards and finally material items. From there our next step is to reach out to potential product partners.
Although this started as only an idea for a project, we are continuing with it and look to develop a working MVP of the app/website in the very near future.
