Knox County Hazardous Waste Disposal

NOW SCHEDULING APPOINTMENTS

Knox County residents can now schedule appointments to properly dispose of hazardous waste by calling 740-393-4600.  Appointments are available the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month beginning in May and running through September.  Appointments are still available next week, May 12th.

Hazardous waste includes automotive fluids, batteries (ends must be tapped), fluorescent bulbs, pesticides, fertilizers, mercury and items containing mercury, varnish, sealers, turpentine, paint (latex is limited to 10 cans), small propane tanks and more.  Visit http://dkmm.org for more information.

Program Details

  • Residents only- no business, schools, non-profits
  • Must bring proof of residency- drivers license or utility bill
  • $1.00/ pound (minimum $5.00)
  • Limit 10 cans of latex paint- if you have more, dry it out with paint dry or kitty litter, once solidified leave the lid off and place in your garbage.
  • 5 gallon containers and under
  • No empty containers- place in your garbage
  • Gas containers cannot be returned
