Year in Review

writing

Writing: I have always loved to write. From sweet, short stories as a girl to writing in a journal to full on novel ideas that I never had time to finish as a high school student, it’s something that I’ve always had a passion for and enjoyed in any setting. Now that I am in college, I plan on getting involved in journalism so I can actively pursue one of my favorite hobbies. While a career in computer engineering may not require much writing, I plan on bringing my skill into the workplace and applying it to the best of my ability.

Humanitarian Engineering Scholars: While I love the technical side of engineering, my ultimate goal is to be able to apply a humanitarian aspect to my career. I believe that I will not be satisfied in my profession until I am able to make a positive impact or help people in some way. I am a member of Humanitarian Engineering Scholars at Ohio State, a learning community that focuses on how engineering can be applied to help the community and world we live in. This group has given me a great amount of encouragement in that, despite being a Computer Science major–one that may not generally involve helping people–there are still many options and ways for me to utilize my major for the benefit of others. One of the above pictures is of a design project we did involving constructing a portable homeless shelter for as low a cost as possible. The other is of Zero Waste Recycling, an organization with which HES often helps distribute recycling bins and bags to tailgaters before football games to further reduce waste from landfills. These are just a few of the many examples HES has demonstrated that engineers can help serve those around them.
