Reflection

Coming into college, it can all be rough at first especially when you don’t have the right tools to help you learn or study and manage your time the right way. At the end of the day, it is all about priorities. If you make the time for what you want to make time for then you can do and learn anything as long as you have the right tools to help guide you along the way. It is best to start all of the little learning strategies as soon as possible and that way; it will help prepare you for college sooner.

As far as time management, there are many things that can be done to make sure that you stay on top of your work and have time for every task without ever missing a deadline. A great tool to help manage your time is a, to do list. A to do list can be made to organize your schedule in order of deadlines and priorities. The key is to just make sure that you look at your to do list every day, multiple times a time to make sure that you have all of your work in order and everything is on time. Another tip is thinking about what is important to you. You really have to ask yourself do you want to be a successful student. You have to ask yourself are you really willing to give up the things you want to do so that you can complete the things that you need to do. Do you want to do work now and have fun later longer? Many students say that they do but it is actually really hard to follow through with all of this. If you want to start seeing success and progress then everything will work out perfectly.

One tip that gets over looked a lot is the amount of sleep that you get. You may have gotten all your work done early or you may not have any work and you might want to go out with some friends and have fun or you might want to stay up and watch a movie or television. This is all fine unless you have something that you need to get done early for the next day. If you have to wake up early in the morning to get some work done and that “fun time” is going to interfere with your work then it is best that you just hold it off until next time. I cannot stress it enough that you get the proper amount of sleep or else you will not be able to function to the best of your abilities for the next day. It is crucial that you get anywhere from eight to ten hours of sleep a night, if not then you are just hurting yourself.

When looking at the complete picture, college is actually easy as long as you do what you are supposed to do without procrastination. Just stay on top of your work and college will be a breeze!

Sources

A quick tip to get an edge on the rest of your future classmates and a way to impress your future teacher is to show that you have very good researching strategies whenever you have to cite something in your work. It’s easy to go to Wikipedia or yahoo and find answers on there to put in your paper or to help do an assignment with but you have to ask yourself, is that a really credible source? The answer is no! when doing research papers or research papers that require you to cit all of your sources, the teacher is not going to be happy when he or she notices that you are citing a site that allows anyone to edit the material on it and change it to something that is flat out wrong like Wikipedia does. It is best to use articles that are written by people who are experts in that area. Maybe a professor or lets say you are researching a court case, it would be appropriate to cite a lawyer. I cannot stress how important it is to make sure that you cite your work also, wouldn’t want to be declared as someone who plagiarizes.

Note Taking

Most high school kids when they first come into college really struggle with taking notes correctly.  The main problem is that most high school kids never really had to because their high school did not push them that hard academically, so they didn’t really have to take notes. Luckily for me, I was able to see both sides of the spectrum; I attended both a laid back academic public school and a rigorous private school where academics were basically shoved down our throats! Looking back at the public school that I went to, it is pretty sad to see how some kids just are not prepared at all to enter a college class room and succeed.

As soon as I entered private school, I had to learn and I had to learn fast because I was behind. When I first started taking notes, my main problem was that I would try to type or write down everything that my teacher was saying and that is a big no, no! Take your time and listen to your teacher talk for a while and then just write down the main idea of what they are saying. If you don’t understand something then write it down and underline it big enough so that you will see it so that you are able to go back after class and ask the teacher about the material. Make sure to always title your notes to help you remember everything better and then write the date also.

Cool New Video

This video bassically informs students what the true meaning of plagerism is. The video shows the viewer just how easy it is to copy someones work and use it as your own and then it tells of the repercussions that can come with it. This video also helps the viewer find really credible sites to use to help cite information.

This video helps all students in a major way. Novice writters and even some higher level writers still dont understand what the real definition of plagerism is. This viedeo gives the viewer all examples of what is plagerism and how to avoid it. No matter how much you think that you may know, it is always nice to watch videos like this because you are bound to learn something else new!

Sleeping Patterens

Depending on your high school, college living is much more different than going to high school. What’s the biggest difference? The biggest difference is your time! You are a young adult now, which means that you don’t have a mother in the same house hold to make sure that you’re up for class, or to make sure that you are going to sleep on time. It is up you to you and only you to properly manage your time. It’s actually really easy to make sure that you get the right amount of sleep during the day and or night depending on your schedule. Since you’re in college and you are a young adult, you have to make more responsible choices. You have to ask yourself, should I really stay up and play video games even though I have to be up in six hours for class? Should I really go out to that party tonight even though I have that big test in the morning? One of my favorite quotes is “Work hard now so you can relax later.” What that means to me is get all of your school work done now so that you relax and enjoy yourself later. Now I’m not saying don’t have fun but if you manage to get all of your work done in time then a free Saturday night sounds better than a busy one any day of the week!

Been There Done That

Being a current student athlete in college, I worried about what would help prepare me the most for college so that I could be the best student athlete I could be. From being in college for a while now, I can tell that because of my high school and the things that I have done on my own, I am more than prepared for the tasks that I have met and the ones that are soon to come from being in college. My biggest tip that i could give students or student athletes who are about to enter college is learn how to manage your time wisely and to the best of your ability. It is hard for most students coming from high school to college on learning how to manage their time the right way. Most students try to wait until the last minute to complete their work that is due. In college, THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO GO! It’s really not that hard to manage your time and finish your work for your classes before the deadline, all one needs to do is finish a portion of work a day consistently throughout the week and your work load will not be too overwhelming. If you use this method then balancing your class work and the other activities that you have will be a piece of cake.
