PSL 2nd Year Advocacy Forum – NASA and the Federal Budget

NASA and the Budget – PSL Project

For my advocacy project, I wanted to focus on an issue that was universal enough that everyone could understand why it was important, while also being focused enough that an individual could enact real change on it. I chose NASA’s budget as my issue, and thus half succeeded. Still, while it would be difficult to have direct impact on the budget of a government agency, the attached PowerPoint attempts to go through both the reasons why one should care about the exploration of space and how one can best support people who have the power to make differences.

The issue of NASA’s budget is a strange one, as, in my experience, it is an issue that reflects one’s deeper views on humanity and its place in the wider universe. As a firm believer in humanity’s duty to as explorers, its natural that I would find NASA’s mission imperative, but I can also understand why someone might find it pointless. The goal of this presentation is not so much to change your mind, but to perhaps make you think deeper on why you have your stance on space exploration. If this project can make you think for even a moment about exploration and NASA’s role in that concept, then I believe that it has succeeded.

About Me

I am an Accounting and Finance starting my first year at The Ohio State University.  Before starting at Ohio State, I was heavily active in my local history club, which has led to my pursuit of a history minor. I was also active in my local Boy Scout troop, where I obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. I plan to become a certified public accountant, before going to law school with the eventual goal of becoming a tax attorney.
