Checkpoint #3: Class Summary

I’ve learned a great deal from this class and definitely recommend it to any incoming freshman or for any one because it really teaches you useful techniques to succeed in online classes. Not everyone comes in with knowledge of how to succeed in them and it’s definitely a lot different than being in the classroom, so I think everyone could benefit from this class. A few of my takeaways would be:

  1. Don’t procrastinate. It’s important to look at your weekly to-do list and plan out when you are going to complete your tasks and assess how much time it’s going to take to complete each one. You need to make sure you are allocating enough time to complete your task to the best of your ability, and make sure you have enough time to do stuff that you love each week.
  2. Become familiar with academic apps, such as Notability, OneNote, Trello, Study Scheduler, and any other note-taking/planning apps. The note-taking apps can really help you when your professor posts online PowerPoints because you can easily add on to their notes, and the planning apps can help you stay on top of your tasks and help you organize your week and see the bigger picture so you don’t get overwhelmed.
  3. Don’t be afraid to collaborate and communicate with your classmates for help (when appropriate). Online classes are hard enough, so sometimes getting support from classmates and even professors can make the biggest difference. It helps to talk to others and not feel so alone, especially with online classes because it can definitely feel lonely at times without that face-to-face interaction that you get in the classroom.
