Learning Technologies Overview

My favorite apps to personally study with are Quizlet, YouTube, Notability, and using the active recall method! This course has introduced me to a variety of different ways to study and process information. YouTube is helpful because you can find a variety of examples and explanations on different topics across subjects.

Additionally, using websites like MindMup are really helpful to sort information and create better understanding of concepts for courses like biology and economics. One thing I dislike about this is that it can be time consuming to manually input this information. It also may be quicker to draw one than to create a MindMup, overall its helpful if your topic is very detailed with overarching but separating themes.

The Notability app is personally my favorite for note-taking because you can sort by subjects, use different colors, highlighters, and is available for use offline! One thing I dislike about this app is that you have to pay to access all of its features. Additionally, if you are not intentional about sorting your notes and titling, it can be difficult to find information because you cannot search text written with an Apple Pen.

The final study tool that I like that was recommended by the course is Study Manager. Study Manager is an app that allows you to create times to study and accomplish other work. One feature I like about this app is that it provides reminders on your cellphone to let you know when to study. One shortfall of this app is that you cannot sync it to your Apple calendar and it could use more customization options. The article, titled, “Guidelines for Creating a Study Schedule” by Cornell University highlights some great and tangible ways to improve your study habits and create more effective studying.  I really like this article because it includes taking short breaks and better managing the time you have.
