His proposal, titled “Novel autocrine mechanism of VEGF signaling in hippocampal neural stem and progenitor cells,” lays out his summer plans for investigating how VEGF signals within stem cell populations to maintain stemness. Josh presents at Hayes forum
March 2, 2017. Josh presented a poster at the selective Hayes Graduate Research Forum on campus titled “Hippocampal neural stem cells from adult mice transport and reduce extracellular glutamate in a GLAST-dependent manner in vitro.” Way to go Josh, for getting selected from many qualified applicants to be a part of this forum!

Josh, Jiyeon and Tyler publish in J Neurosci
February 13, 2018. Congratulations to Josh, Jiyeon and Tyler for getting their Journal Club article accepted to the Journal of Neuroscience. The article, titled “Identifying the Unique Role of Notch3 in Adult Neural Stem Cell Maintenance,” is a well-written scholarly review of Kawai et al., 2017, J Neurosci. Their journal club article is currently in press, but a link will appear under lab publications once it is available online.

November 2017. At the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience, lab manager Bryon Smith will be presenting his work comparing the effectiveness of tamoxifen for inducing cre-lox recombination when administered through diet or injection. Kirby lab receives NARSAD Young Investigator Award.
