Mikayla King has spent half of her life in the sunny South and the other in the rainy Pacific Northwest. Despite the very different climates and cultures, the one thing that remained consistent was her love for serving and caring for others. With her passion for taking care of others in combination with her love of AP Biology, Mikayla was immediately attracted to Nursing as a career.
Currently a pre-nursing student, Mikayla’s main goal of focus is getting accepted into Ohio State’s Nursing program at the end of her freshman year. However, in the future she aspires to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. As a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, she would like to use her position to address the disparities present in the health care field. Her eagerness to address disparities in health care stems from her involvement in on the Washington State Legislative Youth Advisory Council and internship at Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center.
As both a Health and Sciences as well as Morill Scholar, Mikayla looks forward to forging a strong connection between health care and social justice. Additionally, she looks forward to using her time outside of the classroom volunteering, becoming involved in a variety of clubs, and making new friends.
This E-Portfolio will follow Mikayla on her academic and personal journey as she explores all that The Ohio State University has to offer!
